When a Portugal citizen can no longer extend a UAE visit visa, a Bus visa change to Oman offers the cheapest legal exit and re entry. We arrange the round trip coach, your Oman visa, the new UAE visa and every border fee in one package from AED 1,000. This page explains who qualifies, what a Portugal passport holder pays, which days the service runs, what to bring, and how the day unfolds at the border.
The essentials for Portugal citizens: AED 1,000 if you are on a cancelled residence or on arrival visa, AED 1,300 if you hold a tourist visa. Coach, Oman visa, UAE visa and border fees are all included. The service runs Sunday to Wednesday and takes about one day.
Planning to extend your stay in the UAE?
Check our visa renewal by bus service, including the UAE visa, border fees, Oman visa, two way bus fare, and accommodation until your visa is approved. Monthly payment is available with Tabby, Tamara, and UAE credit cards up to 12 months.
How a UAE Bus visa change works
At its core, a Bus visa change is a controlled exit from the UAE by land followed by a fresh entry. Because the new permit can only be granted to someone who is outside the UAE, Portugal citizens must cross the border before the visa is approved. You travel by road to Oman, stay on the Omani side while the application is processed, and re enter the UAE with the new 60 day visa. Expect roughly one day door to door, plus an optional night in Oman if the visa is not ready before the last coach.
The faster alternative is the airport to airport visa change, which flies you to Muscat, Kuwait or Doha and back within hours for AED 1,550. The bus saves money, and for most Portugal travellers on a budget that outweighs the longer day.
Who qualifies
The Oman bus route is open to a defined list of nationalities and to specific visa categories. Send us a photo of your Portugal passport and current visa on WhatsApp and we will confirm within the hour whether the bus route is open to you, or whether the airport route or an in country extension is the better option. Typical Portugal applicants are:
- Tourist visa holders whose extensions are exhausted, three for a 30 day visa and two for a 60 day visa, with 120 days as the overall limit.
- Former residents whose employment visa has been cancelled and who need a tourist visa to remain in the UAE.
- Visitors on an arrival stamp who prefer a new visa over departing the region.
The rule every Portugal visitor should know
UAE authorities charge AED 50 for every day a visit visa remains expired, and the same flat rate applies across all visa types and emirates. Tourist and visit visas carry no grace period, which means fines begin immediately after the expiry date. Any overstay fine is settled before departure, since immigration will not clear you to exit with fines outstanding. Because the service runs Sunday to Wednesday only and seats are limited, we ask Portugal travellers to book 7 to 10 days before the visa expires.

What the Bus visa change package costs
We charge according to the visa you are on today; nationality can add a refundable deposit or surcharge in a few cases.
- Residence cancellation or on arrival visa: AED 1,000
- AED 1,300 for visit and tourist visa holders
Included in both: return coach, Oman visa, UAE visa processing and border fees. We issue a 60 day single entry visa as standard. A 30 day version is sometimes available, so ask us when you book. If you want or need to stay overnight in Oman, we can add a one day stay to the package. Fines for overstaying are cleared directly with immigration and sit outside the package price.
Certain passports may be asked for a refundable security deposit. This is not part of the package fee, it is returned once you leave the UAE, and we tell Portugal travellers the exact figure on WhatsApp in advance.
Instalment options
If you are a UAE resident arranging a Bus visa change for a relative or friend holding a Portugal passport, you can pay through Tabby over up to 12 months, Tamara on extendable terms, or a UAE credit card in 3, 6, 9 or 12 monthly instalments subject to your bank. All other applicants receive a secure online payment link.
Paperwork for a Bus visa change
WhatsApp us the following and expect an eligibility answer within about an hour:
- Passport scan showing the front page and the back cover, valid for at least six months. A missing back cover is the most common reason an application is returned, so please include both.
- A colour passport size photo on a white background, without glasses.
- Whatever permit you currently hold: tourist visa copy, arrival stamp, or residence cancellation paper.
- Your local contact number and address for the pick up details.
A bank statement covering six months is required for certain passports. Where Portugal citizens are affected, the statement of a family member living in the UAE is accepted. The Oman visa is arranged by our team through the eVisa system before you travel. Keep your passport and a card or cash on hand; immigration sometimes asks re entering visitors to show they can support their stay.

What happens on the day
Preparation
We process the Oman visa, secure a seat on the next available Sunday to Wednesday departure and share pick up details on WhatsApp. Any overstay fine should be paid in the GDRFA or ICP app before you travel.
Departure from Dubai
Departure is in the morning from the agreed pick up point in Dubai. Your exit stamp ends the current visa; as soon as it appears in the system we lodge the fresh tourist visa. You clear Omani immigration on the prearranged eVisa.
Waiting in Oman
Approval usually takes a few hours, after which you receive the visa PDF on WhatsApp. A small number of applications go to security check, which can add 24 to 48 hours. In that case the optional overnight stay covers you, and we keep you updated throughout. Approval is always at the discretion of UAE immigration.
Returning to Dubai
Once the PDF is in hand, you take the coach back and show the new visa alongside your Portugal passport at UAE immigration. The new 60 day visa is activated at entry and starts counting from that day. The trip ends in Dubai the same evening unless you added the overnight stay.
Bus versus airport versus extension
Before travelling anywhere, check whether you qualify for the AED 1,200 in country extension, which adds 30 days without leaving. Once extension is no longer possible, the Bus visa change from AED 1,000 is the cheapest way to receive a new 60 day visa, at the cost of a full day and Sunday to Wednesday departures only. The air route at AED 1,550 runs every day and takes six to twelve hours, which makes it the better choice for families, seniors and busy professionals.
What can go wrong and how to avoid it
- Booking too late. The coach runs Sunday to Wednesday only and seats fill quickly around Eid, December and January, so message us 7 to 10 days ahead.
- Short passport validity, which is rejected at both the Omani and UAE counters.
- Fines left unpaid. Settle everything online before departure to avoid being held at the border.
- Counting on grace days. Visit visas have no grace period, so act before the printed expiry date.
- Previous immigration issues. Old bans, unresolved cases or improperly cancelled visas can affect approval, so tell us about them before you pay.
- Travelling without the physical passport. Both borders require the original document.
Answers for Portugal citizens
How long does a Bus visa change to Oman take for a Portugal passport?
Roughly one day door to door. A security check can extend approval to 24 to 48 hours, in which case the overnight option in Oman applies.
What is the Oman visa change by bus price?
The package costs AED 1,000 if you hold a cancellation paper or arrival stamp and AED 1,300 if you are on a tourist visa. Coach, Oman visa, UAE visa and border fees are included. Some nationalities may need a refundable deposit.
When does the coach depart?
Midweek only: Sunday to Wednesday. Book 7 to 10 days ahead to secure a seat before your visa runs out.
What about entry into Oman?
An Oman visa is required for the crossing and we handle the eVisa application for Portugal passports as part of the service.
Is the bus route possible for cancelled residents?
Yes, and it is the situation we see most often. Cancelled residents pay AED 1,000 and receive a 60 day tourist visa.
Can I do this more than once?
You may repeat it, but approval is never automatic and repeated changes are scrutinised. One or two is typical.
What happens on rejection?
Very few applications are refused. If yours is, the return to the UAE is not possible and onward travel from Oman is required. Government visa fees cannot be refunded, so we review your history carefully first.
Are visa changes by road allowed?
It is fully legal. The visa is issued by the UAE authorities in the normal way; the only difference is that you are outside the country at the time.
