United Kingdom passport Visa extension: fees, rules and process

If you hold a United Kingdom passport and your UAE visit visa is running out, a Visa extension lets you stay another 30 days without leaving the country. The fee is AED 1,200 for each 30 day extension, approval normally arrives in two to three working days, and everything is handled on WhatsApp. Here is everything a United Kingdom traveller needs to know before applying: fees, limits, deadlines, paperwork and the alternatives when extension is no longer possible.

Quick answer: a Visa extension for a United Kingdom passport costs AED 1,200 per 30 days and is processed inside the UAE in two to three working days. A 30 day visa can be extended three times and a 60 day visa twice, up to a total stay of 120 days. Apply at least five to seven days before expiry, and note that the extension must be processed by the agency that issued the original visa.

What is a Visa extension without exit?

Unlike a visa change, a Visa extension keeps your existing visa and simply adds 30 days to it. Immigration processes the extension under the original issuer’s account and records the new expiry against your United Kingdom passport. There is no travel involved: you stay in the UAE, keep your accommodation and wait for the approval on WhatsApp.

Visa change by air or by bus means exiting and re entering on a new visa; a Visa extension avoids the exit altogether. For United Kingdom visitors who still qualify, the extension is the cheapest and least disruptive option, and it is the one we recommend first.

Is a Visa extension available for United Kingdom citizens?

Whether you qualify comes down to your current visa, your extension history and who issued the original visa. We check the position for United Kingdom passports on WhatsApp and advise the right route: extension, airport to airport or bus.

  • Visit and tourist visa holders on a 30 day or 60 day visa issued through a travel agency. A 30 day visa can be extended three times and a 60 day visa twice, each by 30 days.
  • Visitors who have not reached 120 days in the UAE on the current visa.
  • Visitors whose visa we issued. Immigration processes extensions through the original issuer’s account, so another agency cannot extend a visa we did not issue, and we cannot extend a visa issued elsewhere.

If your visa was issued by a different agency, you have two choices: ask that agency to extend it, or use an exit route with us. An airport to airport visa change costs AED 1,550 and a visa change by bus to Oman starts from AED 1,000, and both give you a fresh 60 day visa regardless of who issued the first one. This service does not cover visa on arrival stamps or residence permits.

How much does a Visa extension cost?

A 30 day extension is AED 1,200 for all passports, United Kingdom included; there is no nationality based pricing on extensions.

  • 30 day extension: AED 1,200
  • 60 day extension: AED 2,400 (two 30 day extensions back to back)

The fee covers the government charge and our processing, and it is not refundable if immigration declines the extension, because the government fee is paid at submission. Any overstay fine is settled separately with immigration and is not included in the AED 1,200. If you only need a month, extend; if you need two months and have run out of extensions, a new visa by air or bus is the better route for a United Kingdom passport.

Pay in monthly instalments

If you live in the UAE and are sponsoring a relative or friend holding a United Kingdom passport, the extension fee can be paid through Tabby over up to 12 months, Tamara on extendable terms, or a UAE credit card in 3, 6, 9 or 12 monthly instalments subject to your bank. Everyone else is sent a secure payment link online. Family extensions are handled together, and the combined total can be split the same way.

Visa extension requirements for United Kingdom passport holders

The document list for an extension is short, because immigration already holds your details from the original visa. Send these on WhatsApp:

  1. A scan of the passport, valid for a minimum of six months.
  2. A recent colour photograph, white background, passport dimensions, no glasses.
  3. The current visa copy, which we use to check the expiry date and remaining extensions.

No bank statement, hotel booking or return ticket is required for the extension itself. Immigration may occasionally request an additional document on a case by case basis, and we will tell you immediately if that happens for a United Kingdom passport.

How to apply for a Visa extension from United Kingdom

  1. Share your documents with us on WhatsApp at +971 52 292 1011 or +971 4 220 2133 with at least five to seven days remaining, and we confirm the same day.
  2. Pay through the secure link or instalment plan we send. Submission to immigration starts only after payment is received.
  3. We file with immigration and follow up. Typical turnaround for United Kingdom citizens is two to three working days.
  4. The approved extension arrives as a PDF on WhatsApp with the updated expiry. Store it alongside your passport.

When to apply and why the deadline matters

The extension must be submitted before the current visa expires; an expired visa cannot be extended. Allow five to seven days: two to three working days for processing, plus a buffer for weekends and holidays. If you plan to extend more than once, apply for the next extension a few days before the current one ends, and keep an eye on the 120 day total.

Overstay rules in 2026

Once a visit visa expires, no extra days are granted. The overstay fine is AED 50 per day, applied uniformly across every emirate and visa category, from the first day past expiry. Anyone who overstays by more than 30 days also needs an exit permit, typically AED 250 to 300, before leaving. Once expired, the visa cannot be extended. You settle the fine and use an exit route, airport to airport or bus, which we organise for United Kingdom travellers.

When extension is no longer possible

The 120 day ceiling is absolute; after it, every United Kingdom visitor has to exit. Four options follow: airport to airport at AED 1,550 and back the same day, the bus to Oman from AED 1,000 taking roughly a day, a return home before a new visa, or a residence visa through an employer or family member. Either exit route resets you on a new 60 day visa, and the same agency rule does not apply to them.

How to keep your application on track

  • Missing the deadline. Once the visa lapses, only an exit route remains.
  • Expecting a third party to extend a visa it did not issue, which the system does not allow.
  • Forgetting that extensions add to the original stay rather than replacing it.
  • A passport expiring soon. Renew it before applying.
  • Confusing residency or arrival stamps with agency visit visas, which are the only ones we can extend.

Answers for United Kingdom citizens

Is extension without exit possible for United Kingdom citizens?

Yes. No exit is needed for agency issued visit visas within the extension limits and the 120 day cap, when processed by the original issuer.

How much does a Visa extension cost for United Kingdom citizens?

AED 1,200 per 30 day extension, the same for every nationality including United Kingdom. A two month extension is AED 2,400, processed as two consecutive 30 day extensions.

What is the processing time?

Most extensions are approved within two to three working days. Weekends and public holidays are not counted, and immigration may occasionally take longer, so apply five to seven days before expiry.

What is the maximum stay?

A 30 day visa can be extended three times and a 60 day visa twice, each by 30 days. The maximum continuous stay on any UAE tourist visa is 120 days, after which exit is mandatory.

Can I extend a visa issued by another agency?

Extensions go through the issuer’s account, so a visa from another agency must be extended by them. Alternatively, we arrange an airport to airport change or the Oman bus, neither of which depends on who issued the first visa.

When do fines start?

There is no grace period. Fines of AED 50 per day begin immediately after expiry, and an exit permit costing roughly AED 250 to 300 is needed if the overstay exceeds 30 days.

Can I extend visas for my family together?

Yes. Family extensions are handled as one application, and the total fee is eligible for instalments when a UAE resident books on the family’s behalf.

Can immigration decline an extension?

Refusals are rare when the eligibility rules are met. If immigration declines, the fee is not refundable because the government charge is paid at submission, and you would need to exit before expiry through an airport to airport change or the bus to Oman. We check eligibility carefully before you pay to keep this risk low.
