Portugal passport and UAE entry rules

Unless a passport qualifies for visa on arrival, a prearranged tourist visa is required, and that is what we provide. A limited number of passports receive a visa on arrival at UAE airports, and the list changes from time to time. To be certain about the current rule for Portugal citizens, WhatsApp us your passport page and we will check it at no cost.

What a Dubai visa costs from Dubai

Current Dubai visa pricing for Portugal citizens, verified September 2026:

  • Single entry 30 day visa: AED 450
  • 60 day single entry: AED 650
  • 30 days, multiple entry: AED 800
  • 60 day tourist visa, multiple entry: AED 1,000

The shortest UAE tourist visa is 30 days; there is no shorter tourist visa. Fees are not refundable on rejection, since the government charge is paid the moment the application is lodged.

Security deposits explained

Some passports are asked for a refundable security deposit. This is independent of the visa cost, refunded once you depart the UAE, and we tell Portugal applicants in advance whether one applies.

Payment options

UAE residents applying for a family member or friend from Portugal can split the visa fee using Tabby with up to 12 months, Tamara with extendable terms, or a UAE credit card with 3, 6, 9 or 12 month plans depending on the issuing bank. All other applicants receive a secure online payment link.

Documents required for a Dubai visa on a Portugal passport

Share these items on WhatsApp and we will confirm whether we can proceed, typically within the hour:

  1. Your passport data page plus a photo of the back cover, with six months or more validity. We ask for both because the back cover is the item most often forgotten.
  2. A recent colour photograph, white background, passport dimensions, no glasses.
  3. A two way air ticket. If you have not booked flights yet, we can book them for you.
  4. For minors, a birth certificate. For a few nationalities, a copy of the national ID card is also required.

A bank statement covering six months is required for certain passports. Where Portugal citizens are affected, the statement of a family member living in the UAE is accepted. Bear in mind that immigration officers sometimes ask arriving passengers to show they can fund their stay, so keep a card or cash accessible.

Applying through a family member or friend in the UAE

For sponsored applications the UAE resident supplies a passport copy and residence visa page valid for six months, both sides of their Emirates ID, and the online guarantee form at applyvisa.app. A family member’s UAE bank statement can replace the visitor’s statement if one is required, though friends cannot substitute theirs.

Getting your Dubai visa in four steps

  1. Share your documents with us on WhatsApp at +971 52 292 1011 or +971 4 220 2133 and we confirm which visa fits your plans.
  2. Complete payment through the link or instalment option we provide. We submit the application once documents and payment are in place.
  3. The application is filed and monitored by our team. Expect 24 to 72 hours for most Portugal applicants, with occasional delays or extra document requests from immigration.
  4. Once approved, we send the visa PDF on WhatsApp. Show it at check in and at UAE immigration together with your passport.

Validity and duration of stay

Entry must take place within 60 days of issue, or the visa lapses. Your 30 or 60 days of stay begin on the day you enter, not on the day the visa is issued. With single entry you may arrive once; multiple entry permits several arrivals within the validity, ideal for regional itineraries that pass through Oman, Saudi Arabia or Qatar. Employment is not permitted on a tourist visa.

No grace period and the AED 50 daily fine

Visitors do not receive any grace days after the expiry date. An expired visa attracts AED 50 per day in fines from day one, and the rate is the same everywhere in the UAE. Anyone who overstays by more than 30 days also needs an exit permit, typically AED 250 to 300, before leaving. Our team messages Portugal visitors on WhatsApp ahead of expiry so there is time to extend or leave.

Extending a Dubai visa for Portugal passport holders

Thirty day visas may be extended three times by 30 days, and 60 day visas twice by 30 days, all from inside the UAE. Total time in the UAE cannot exceed 120 days. Once you reach the maximum, you must exit and re enter, either through an airport to airport visa change or by bus to Oman. Extensions are only accepted before expiry, so message us while you still have a week or more left.

Sharjah visa option

A Sharjah issued 60 day single entry visa is available at AED 1,200 with no security deposit. It works for the entire country, including Dubai. We can tell you on WhatsApp which of the two is the better fit for Portugal applicants.

Why applications get held up

  • No back cover scan. Send it together with the front page.
  • A passport expiring within six months of travel.
  • Unclear document images. A clean, well lit scan avoids delays.
  • Past visa problems in the UAE. We assess these before submission so that you are not surprised by a refusal.
  • A passport with a single name and no document showing a full name, which immigration cannot process.
  • Last minute applications. Give us a minimum of three working days, longer around Eid and the winter peak.

Can the visa be extended?

Yes. Extensions of 30 days are available three times on a 30 day visa and twice on a 60 day visa, all from inside the UAE, up to 120 days. Once exhausted, a visa change by air or bus is needed.

When do fines start?

None. The AED 50 daily fine starts the day after the visa expires, with an exit permit of around AED 250 to 300 added after 30 days of overstay.

What if immigration refuses my Dubai visa?

Can I work in the UAE on a Dubai visa?
