At its core, a a2a visa change is a short trip out of the country so that a new visa can be issued. Situations where Belgium citizens need a a2a visa change

Since in country extension exists, a a2a visa change is the right move only when extension is no longer possible. You will need a a2a visa change on a Belgium passport if any of the following applies:

• You have used every in country extension available. A 30 day visa can be extended three times and a 60 day visa twice, each by 30 days, up to a total stay of 120 days.
• Your residency was cancelled and you need more time in the UAE. The only route is a new tourist visa, which a a2a visa change provides.

Preparation

Avoid Fridays. If a security check is triggered on a Friday, approval may slip past the weekend when offices are closed.

Check in and exit at Dubai Terminal 2

Reach Terminal 2 at Dubai International about five hours early, check in with flydubai and ask for the outbound and return boarding passes together. Photograph both passes and send them to us on WhatsApp. Immigration then stamps you out, which formally ends your current visa, and the moment your exit registers we submit your new visa application.

In Muscat, Kuwait or Doha

Flight time is roughly an hour. You remain in the transit area and do not need to clear immigration in Oman, Kuwait or Qatar for a same day return. Where an extension is still possible, take it: the in country option costs AED 1,200 for 30 days and requires no flight. When you can no longer extend, a a2a visa change provides twice the stay of an extension for AED 1,550. Travellers on a tight budget sometimes choose the Oman bus, which starts at AED 1,000 for cancelled residents or AED 1,400 to 1,500 for visitors, at the cost of an overnight trip.
