When a visitor from East Timor has run out of extension options, a a2a visa change is the practical answer: a short flight out, a new visa issued while you wait, and a return within hours. We take care of the flydubai booking, the visa submission and the timing, so East Timor travellers spend the least possible time away from Dubai.
Short version: AED 1,550, one flydubai return flight, one new 60 day single entry tourist visa, and a typical turnaround of six to twelve hours for East Timor citizens doing a a2a visa change.
Looking to extend your stay in the UAE?
Let White Sky Travel help you process an airport visa change from a tourist visa, cancelled residence visa, or current visa on-arrival.
The meaning of a2a visa change for East Timor passport holders
A a2a visa change is simply a controlled exit followed by a fresh entry. The rule is that the applicant, in this case a East Timor passport holder, must be abroad when the new visa is processed. Flying is the fastest way to satisfy that rule. The usual routing from Dubai is to Muscat, Kuwait City or Doha, and most travellers are back in the arrivals hall at Terminal 2 within six to twelve hours of departure.
A bus visa change through Oman exists as well, but it costs a night away and a much longer day. A a2a visa change costs more than the bus, yet it saves a day and suits families, older travellers and anyone with work or school commitments in Dubai.
Is a a2a visa change the right option for you?
Since in country extension exists, a a2a visa change is the right move only when extension is no longer possible. These are the situations where East Timor travellers should book one:
- Your extensions are exhausted: three for a 30 day visa, two for a 60 day visa, with 120 days as the overall limit.
- You are on a cancelled residence visa and want to stay on as a visitor while you find a new job. A a2a visa change gives you a 60 day tourist visa.
- You missed the extension deadline. With fines already running, a a2a visa change is the fastest way to regularise your status.
- You entered on a visa type that cannot be extended in country, such as certain on arrival stamps or multiple entry permits. Message us on WhatsApp and we will confirm which category your East Timor passport falls under.
The 2026 rule every East Timor visitor should know
UAE authorities charge AED 50 for every day a visit visa remains expired, and the same flat rate applies across all visa types and emirates. Tourist and visit visas carry no grace period, which means fines begin immediately after the expiry date. Anyone who overstays by more than 30 days also needs an exit permit, typically AED 250 to 300, before they can leave. Booking early costs nothing extra, so we advise East Timor travellers to message us with 10 to 15 days left on the current visa.

a2a visa change price for East Timor passport holders
The package for East Timor passport holders is straightforward: AED 1,550 for a 60 day single entry visa and the return flight on flydubai. Tourist visa holders and cancelled residents pay an identical amount. The amount includes the flight, the government visa fee and our support throughout the day.
- Visa type: 60 days, single entry
- Ticket: flydubai return from Dubai International Terminal 2 to a nearby GCC airport
- Delivery: approved visa PDF on WhatsApp, usually before your return flight
- Help: a dedicated consultant on WhatsApp for the whole process
- Fee: AED 1,550 per adult traveller
We only sell the 60 day a2a visa change, since a 30 day visa would cost nearly as much for half the validity. A few nationalities pay an additional AED 100 for longer processing. We check the position for East Timor passports and tell you upfront. Any overstay fine is settled by you at immigration before you fly and is separate from our fee.
Certain passports may be asked for a refundable security deposit. This is not part of the visa fee, it is refunded once you leave the UAE, and we will tell East Timor travellers the exact figure on WhatsApp in advance.
Spread the cost
For UAE residents sponsoring a East Timor family member or friend, the AED 1,550 can be split with Tabby up to 12 months, Tamara on extendable terms, or a UAE credit card over 3, 6, 9 or 12 months according to the bank. All other applicants receive a secure online payment link.
Documents required for a East Timor passport
Send these on WhatsApp and we can usually confirm eligibility within the hour:
- Your passport data page plus a photo of the back cover. We ask for both because the back cover is the item most often forgotten.
- Six months minimum validity from your flight date, two blank pages, and a passport in clean condition.
- A white background colour photo in passport format, without eyewear, taken recently.
- The existing tourist visa PDF or, for cancelled residents, the cancellation document.
Bank statement requirements depend on nationality. Should East Timor be one of the passports that needs one, a relative in the UAE can submit their own statement for you. UAE immigration may also ask arriving travellers to show proof of funds on entry, so carry a card or cash that demonstrates you can support your stay. Please complete the guarantee form at applyvisa.app once we confirm your booking.
a2a visa change step by step for East Timor travellers
Preparation
We lock in the flight, forward the ticket on WhatsApp and check that any outstanding fines have been paid online. If your visa has not expired, there is nothing to pay at the airport. Book for Monday to Thursday if you can, as a Friday delay can stretch over the weekend.
Check in and exit at Dubai Terminal 2
Plan to be at Dubai Terminal 2 five hours before the flight, check in and receive boarding passes for both sectors. Take clear photos of the two passes and send them to your consultant on WhatsApp. Your exit stamp ends the current visa, and we lodge the fresh visa the instant the exit appears in the system.
In Muscat, Kuwait or Doha
You will be in the air for about an hour. Because you do not leave the airport, East Timor passport holders need no visa for the transit country. Most applications clear within a few hours, and the approved visa reaches your WhatsApp as a PDF. Should a security check be triggered, expect 24 to 48 hours. The airline lets you wait airside and we stay on WhatsApp until the visa is issued.
Returning to Dubai
Once you have the PDF from us, you can use the eGate at Terminal 2 for a quick entry. If approval has not come through yet, skip the eGate, approach a manual counter and stay in the waiting area until we send the PDF. The visa clock starts on the date of re entry.
A2A versus extension versus bus
If you still have an in country extension available, use it first; a 30 day extension without exit costs AED 1,200 and needs no travel. When you can no longer extend, a a2a visa change provides twice the stay of an extension for AED 1,550. Travellers on a tight budget sometimes choose the Oman bus, which starts at AED 1,000 for cancelled residents or AED 1,400 to 1,500 for visitors, at the cost of an overnight trip. On balance, East Timor citizens usually prefer the a2a visa change for its speed and comfort.

Mistakes to avoid
- Waiting until the final days. Peak periods such as Eid, December and January fill flights quickly.
- A passport expiring within six months. Renew it before attempting a a2a visa change.
- Spelling differences. Ticket and passport names must be identical, middle names included.
- Fines left unpaid. Settle everything online before the flight to avoid being held at the exit counter.
- Assuming a grace period. There is none, so a visa expiring on the 10th must be extended or exited by the 10th.
- Hidden immigration records. Let us know about earlier problems so we can assess the risk honestly before booking.
Questions East Timor travellers ask us
What is the total time from departure to return?
Six to twelve hours is normal. Security checks occasionally push it to 24 to 48 hours, and you can wait at the airport throughout.
How many times can a East Timor citizen do a a2a visa change?
The rules set no maximum, but each new visa is a fresh decision by immigration, and consecutive changes are looked at more carefully.
My residency was cancelled. Can I still apply?
Yes. Send the cancellation document and we handle the change to a 60 day tourist visa for the same flat price.
Which country will I transit through?
Muscat, Kuwait City or Doha, depending on flydubai availability on your chosen date. All are under two hours from Dubai and support a same day return.
Is a transit visa required?
No. You remain airside at the transit airport, so no visa for that country is needed.
Can my children travel on the same package?
Certainly. Every family member, including children, needs a ticket and visa, and we arrange all of them together.
What happens on rejection?
Rejection is uncommon. Should it happen, you would need to fly on to your home country or another destination, and the visa fee is not refundable as it is a government charge. We flag risks before booking so that this does not come as a surprise.
Is a a2a visa change legal?
Yes. It is a standard immigration process: you exit on your old visa and enter on a new one issued by UAE authorities. Always use a licensed agency so the visa is applied through official channels.
