Malta passport a2a visa change in the UAE

For travellers from Malta, a a2a visa change means leaving the UAE on a short flight and coming back the same day with a brand new 60 day tourist visa. Our team books the flight, lodges the visa application at the right moment and guides you on WhatsApp through every stage of the day.

Short version: AED 1,550, one flydubai return flight, one new 60 day single entry tourist visa, and a typical turnaround of six to twelve hours for Malta citizens doing a a2a visa change.

Looking to extend your stay in the UAE?

Let White Sky Travel help you process an airport visa change from a tourist visa, cancelled residence visa, or current visa on-arrival.

What is a a2a visa change?

A a2a visa change is simply a controlled exit followed by a fresh entry. Immigration only links a new visa to a Malta passport once the holder has left the UAE, which is why the flight is essential. A short flight is the quickest way to meet that condition. The usual routing from Dubai is to Muscat, Kuwait City or Doha, and most travellers are back in the arrivals hall at Terminal 2 within six to twelve hours of departure.

Some visitors choose the Oman bus route instead, though it is slower and involves sleeping near the border crossing. A a2a visa change costs more than the bus, yet it saves a day and suits families, older travellers and anyone with work or school commitments in Dubai.

Situations where Malta citizens need a a2a visa change

Since in country extension exists, a a2a visa change is the right move only when extension is no longer possible. These are the situations where Malta travellers should book one:

  • All your extensions are used up. The UAE allows a 30 day visa to be extended three times and a 60 day visa twice, and total stay cannot go beyond 120 days.
  • Your UAE residence visa has been cancelled. A cancelled residency cannot be extended, so we convert your status to a 60 day tourist visa through a a2a visa change.
  • You missed the extension deadline. With fines already running, a a2a visa change is the fastest way to regularise your status.
  • Your entry stamp is one that immigration does not extend, which applies to some on arrival and multiple entry visas. We can confirm the rules for Malta passports on WhatsApp.

Overstay fines and why you should book early

The overstay fine in the UAE is AED 50 per day, applied uniformly to tourist, visit and residence visas in every emirate. No grace period applies to visit visas, so the counter starts the very next day. If the overstay passes 30 days, an additional exit permit costing about AED 250 to 300 is required. Because the fee is the same whenever you book, the smart move is to reach out while 10 to 15 days remain on your visa.

Price of a a2a visa change on a Malta passport

We offer one product: a 60 day single entry UAE tourist visa with a flydubai return ticket for AED 1,550. You pay the same figure for a tourist to tourist change and for a residence cancellation conversion. Included are the ticket, the visa processing and our WhatsApp guidance from booking to entry.

  • Visa issued: 60 day single entry UAE tourist visa
  • Ticket: flydubai return from Dubai International Terminal 2 to a nearby GCC airport
  • How you get it: a PDF copy on WhatsApp while you wait at the transit airport
  • Assistance: WhatsApp support throughout, including on the day of travel
  • Price: AED 1,550 per adult

There is no 30 day version of our a2a visa change. The 30 day visa costs almost as much and delivers half the stay, so the 60 day package is the sensible option. An AED 100 supplement applies to certain passports that need extra processing time. Ask us whether Malta is on that list before you book. If you have overstayed, the fine is paid directly to immigration and is not included in the AED 1,550.

Certain passports may be asked for a refundable security deposit. This is not part of the visa fee, it is refunded once you leave the UAE, and we will tell Malta travellers the exact figure on WhatsApp in advance.

Pay in instalments

For UAE residents sponsoring a Malta family member or friend, the AED 1,550 can be split with Tabby up to 12 months, Tamara on extendable terms, or a UAE credit card over 3, 6, 9 or 12 months according to the bank. All other applicants receive a secure online payment link.

What Malta citizens need to send us

Message us these items on WhatsApp and we will normally confirm your eligibility within an hour:

  1. Your passport data page plus a photo of the back cover. We ask for both because the back cover is the item most often forgotten.
  2. At least six months remaining validity, two empty pages, and no torn or water damaged pages.
  3. A colour passport size photo on a white background, taken within the last six months, without glasses.
  4. A copy of the visa you are on now, or the official cancellation paper if your residency was cancelled.

Bank statement requirements depend on nationality. Should Malta be one of the passports that needs one, a relative in the UAE can submit their own statement for you. Please also carry a card or some cash on the return flight, since immigration can ask arriving visitors to show proof of funds. Before the flight we will send you a link to the guarantee form at applyvisa.app, which takes a few minutes to complete.

What happens on the day

Preparation

After verification we book flydubai, send your ticket and confirm that you have no unpaid fines on the GDRFA or ICP system. If you are within your visa validity, the airport stage costs nothing extra. Avoid Fridays. If a security check is triggered on a Friday, approval may slip past the weekend when offices are closed.

Departure from Dubai

Arrive at Dubai International Terminal 2 around five hours before departure, check in at the flydubai counter and collect both boarding passes. WhatsApp us photos of both boarding passes before you go through immigration. After the exit is registered, we submit the new tourist visa application for your Malta passport without delay.

While you wait abroad

You will be in the air for about an hour. There is no need to enter the transit country; you stay airside and check in for the return sector. Typically the visa is granted in a few hours and we forward the PDF while you are still at the transit airport. Occasionally immigration orders a security check, extending the wait to 24 to 48 hours. You can remain at the airport and we will monitor the status with you.

Returning to Dubai

With the visa PDF on your phone, the eGate at Terminal 2 gives you a fast entry. Should the visa still be pending on landing, avoid the eGate, use the manual counters and wait in the Terminal 2 holding area until we confirm. Your 60 days begin on the entry date.

A2A versus extension versus bus

If you still have an in country extension available, use it first; a 30 day extension without exit costs AED 1,200 and needs no travel. A a2a visa change becomes the right choice the moment extension is no longer possible, and it delivers 60 days rather than 30 for AED 1,550. The bus to Oman costs less, from AED 1,000 for residence cancellation and AED 1,400 to 1,500 for visit visa holders, but it takes a day or two and includes a night away. On balance, Malta citizens usually prefer the a2a visa change for its speed and comfort.

What can go wrong and how to avoid it

  • Waiting until the final days. Peak periods such as Eid, December and January fill flights quickly.
  • Less than six months on the passport. Immigration will not approve a visa in that case, so renew first.
  • Ticket name errors. We need the full name exactly as printed in the Malta passport.
  • Fines left unpaid. Settle everything online before the flight to avoid being held at the exit counter.
  • Believing there is a buffer. There is not, and fines start the day after expiry.
  • Previous immigration issues. Old bans, unresolved cases or improperly cancelled visas can affect approval, so tell us about them before you pay.

Questions Malta travellers ask us

How long does a a2a visa change take for a Malta passport?

Six to twelve hours is normal. Security checks occasionally push it to 24 to 48 hours, and you can wait at the airport throughout.

How many times can a Malta citizen do a a2a visa change?

No official cap exists, though immigration reviews each case separately and frequent repeats draw more attention. Most Malta visitors do one or two before obtaining residency or departing.

Can I do a a2a visa change on a cancelled residence visa?

Yes, and it is the situation we see most often. Once you have the cancellation paper, we process a 60 day tourist visa for AED 1,550.

What is the destination?

We book flydubai to Muscat, Kuwait or Doha based on seat availability. Each is a short flight with a same day return.

Do Malta passport holders need an Oman visa for this?

No. You remain airside at the transit airport, so no visa for that country is needed.

Can I bring my family?

Yes. Children require individual tickets and visas, and we prepare a single quote for the whole family.

Is a refund possible if immigration refuses?

Refusal is rare but final. You would need to travel elsewhere and the visa fee is retained by the authorities. Our pre check is designed to catch problems early.

Is it lawful to do this?

Yes. You leave on the current visa and return on a new one granted by UAE immigration. Using a licensed agency keeps the application within official channels.
