a2a visa change for Maldives citizens

When a visitor from Maldives has run out of extension options, a a2a visa change is the practical answer: a short flight out, a new visa issued while you wait, and a return within hours. We take care of the flydubai booking, the visa submission and the timing, so Maldives travellers spend the least possible time away from Dubai.

In short: Maldives passport holders pay AED 1,550 for a a2a visa change, which covers the return flight from Dubai, the 60 day single entry visa and our coordination, with most travellers back in Dubai within six to twelve hours.

Let White Sky Travel help you process an airport visa change from a tourist visa, cancelled residence visa, or current visa on-arrival.

How a a2a visa change works

A a2a visa change is simply a controlled exit followed by a fresh entry. Because the new permit can only be granted to someone who is outside the UAE, Maldives citizens must exit before the visa is approved. A flydubai rotation to a nearby GCC airport is the fastest way to do it. Most Maldives travellers fly from Dubai Terminal 2 to Muscat, Kuwait City or Doha and are back in Dubai the same day.

A bus visa change through Oman exists as well, but it costs a night away and a much longer day. A a2a visa change costs more than the bus, yet it saves a day and suits families, older travellers and anyone with work or school commitments in Dubai.

When Maldives passport holders need a a2a visa change

Most 30 day and 60 day UAE visit visas can now be extended from inside the country, so a a2a visa change is not always necessary. For Maldives citizens, the following circumstances call for a a2a visa change:

  • You have used every in country extension available. A 30 day visa can be extended three times and a 60 day visa twice, each by 30 days, up to a total stay of 120 days.
  • You are on a cancelled residence visa and want to stay on as a visitor while you find a new job. A a2a visa change gives you a 60 day tourist visa.
  • Your visa expired before you applied for an extension. In that case you pay the overstay fine and exit on a a2a visa change.
  • You hold a permit that is not extendable from inside the UAE. Send us a photo of your visa on WhatsApp and we will advise the correct route for a Maldives passport.

Do not wait until the last day

UAE authorities charge AED 50 for every day a visit visa remains expired, and the same flat rate applies across all visa types and emirates. Visitors do not receive any grace days, and the fine runs from the first day of overstay. After 30 days of overstay, an exit permit of roughly AED 250 to 300 becomes necessary as well. A a2a visa change booked ten days before expiry costs exactly the same as one booked on the last day, so we recommend contacting us when you still have 10 to 15 days remaining.

Price of a a2a visa change on a Maldives passport

We offer one product: a 60 day single entry UAE tourist visa with a flydubai return ticket for AED 1,550. The price is the same whether you are changing from a tourist visa or converting a cancelled residence visa. Included are the ticket, the visa processing and our WhatsApp guidance from booking to entry.

  • New UAE tourist visa: 60 days, single entry
  • Flight: flydubai return ticket from Dubai Terminal 2 to Muscat, Kuwait City or Doha
  • Processing: visa applied while you are outside the UAE and sent to your WhatsApp as a PDF
  • Assistance: WhatsApp support throughout, including on the day of travel
  • Rate: AED 1,550 per person

We do not offer a 30 day a2a visa change. A 30 day visa costs nearly the same to process and gives you half the time, so the 60 day option is better value in every case we see. A few nationalities pay an additional AED 100 for longer processing. We check the position for Maldives passports and tell you upfront. Fines for overstaying are cleared by the passenger at the airport and sit outside the package price.

For a limited set of nationalities a refundable deposit is requested. It sits apart from the AED 1,550, comes back to you after your final exit, and we confirm whether it applies to Maldives citizens before booking.

Pay in instalments

For UAE residents sponsoring a Maldives family member or friend, the AED 1,550 can be split with Tabby up to 12 months, Tamara on extendable terms, or a UAE credit card over 3, 6, 9 or 12 months according to the bank. Other travellers pay by a secure online payment link that we send on WhatsApp.

Paperwork for a a2a visa change

Message us these items on WhatsApp and we will normally confirm your eligibility within an hour:

  1. Passport scan showing the front page and the back cover. A missing back cover is the most common reason an application is returned, so please include both.
  2. Six months minimum validity from your flight date, two blank pages, and a passport in clean condition.
  3. A white background colour photo in passport format, without eyewear, taken recently.
  4. The existing tourist visa PDF or, for cancelled residents, the cancellation document.

Depending on nationality, a six month bank statement may be requested. If that applies to Maldives applicants, a UAE resident family member can provide theirs instead. Please also carry a card or some cash on the return flight, since immigration can ask arriving visitors to show proof of funds. Please complete the guarantee form at applyvisa.app once we confirm your booking.

Preparation

We confirm your flydubai flight, share the ticket and remind you to settle any overstay fine through the GDRFA or ICP app. With a valid visa, no payment is due at the airport. Book for Monday to Thursday if you can, as a Friday delay can stretch over the weekend.

Leaving the UAE

Reach Terminal 2 at Dubai International about five hours early, check in with flydubai and ask for the outbound and return boarding passes together. Photograph both passes and send them to us on WhatsApp. Immigration then stamps you out, which formally ends your current visa, and the moment your exit registers we submit your new visa application.

The waiting period

The hop to Muscat, Kuwait or Doha takes close to an hour. You stay in the international transit zone, so no visa for Oman, Kuwait or Qatar is required. In standard cases the new visa is approved within a few hours and we send the PDF to your WhatsApp before your return flight. A small number of applications go to security check, which can add 24 to 48 hours. Airlines permit you to wait at the airport, and we keep you updated until it clears.

Re entry

Once you have the PDF from us, you can use the eGate at Terminal 2 for a quick entry. If the visa is still processing when you land, do not use the eGate; go to a manual immigration counter and wait in the designated area until we confirm approval. Validity runs for 60 days from your arrival.

A2A versus extension versus bus

Where an extension is still possible, take it: the in country option costs AED 1,200 for 30 days and requires no flight. When you can no longer extend, a a2a visa change provides twice the stay of an extension for AED 1,550. The bus to Oman costs less, from AED 1,000 for residence cancellation and AED 1,400 to 1,500 for visit visa holders, but it takes a day or two and includes a night away. On balance, Maldives citizens usually prefer the a2a visa change for its speed and comfort.

What can go wrong and how to avoid it

  • Waiting until the final days. Peak periods such as Eid, December and January fill flights quickly.
  • Short passport validity. Applications on passports with under six months remaining are refused.
  • Ticket name errors. We need the full name exactly as printed in the Maldives passport.
  • Fines left unpaid. Settle everything online before the flight to avoid being held at the exit counter.
  • Expecting extra days after expiry. The UAE gives visitors none, so plan around the exact date.
  • Undisclosed history. Prior overstays, bans or uncancelled visas can lead to refusal, so share them with us upfront.

Answers for Maldives citizens

How long does a a2a visa change take for a Maldives passport?

Most Maldives travellers are back within six to twelve hours. A security check can extend this to 24 to 48 hours, during which you may wait at the airport.

Can I do this more than once?

No official cap exists, though immigration reviews each case separately and frequent repeats draw more attention. Most Maldives visitors do one or two before obtaining residency or departing.

Can I do a a2a visa change on a cancelled residence visa?

Absolutely. Cancelled residents from Maldives are converted to a 60 day tourist visa through a a2a visa change at the standard AED 1,550.

Which airport do I fly to?

Muscat is the most common, with Kuwait and Doha as alternatives, all within two hours of Dubai.

Will I need a visa for the other country?

Not for a same day return. You do not enter Oman, Kuwait or Qatar; you stay in transit.

Is there a family option?

Certainly. Every family member, including children, needs a ticket and visa, and we arrange all of them together.

What if immigration declines the application?

Very few applications are refused. If yours is, the return to Dubai is not possible and onward travel is required. Government visa fees cannot be refunded, so we review your history carefully first.

Is it lawful to do this?

Yes. It is a standard immigration process: you exit on your old visa and enter on a new one issued by UAE authorities. Always use a licensed agency so the visa is applied through official channels.
