For travellers from Sierra Leone, a a2a visa change means leaving the UAE on a short flight and coming back the same day with a brand new 60 day tourist visa. We take care of the flydubai booking, the visa submission and the timing, so Sierra Leone travellers spend the least possible time away from Dubai.
In short: Sierra Leone passport holders pay AED 1,550 for a a2a visa change, which covers the return flight from Dubai, the 60 day single entry visa and our coordination, with most travellers back in Dubai within six to twelve hours.
Looking to extend your stay in the UAE?
Let White Sky Travel help you process an airport visa change from a tourist visa, cancelled residence visa, or current visa on-arrival.
What is a a2a visa change?
A a2a visa change is simply a controlled exit followed by a fresh entry. The rule is that the applicant, in this case a Sierra Leone passport holder, must be abroad when the new visa is processed. Flying is the fastest way to satisfy that rule. The typical route runs from Dubai International Terminal 2 to Muscat, Kuwait or Doha, with a return the same day.
A bus visa change through Oman exists as well, but it costs a night away and a much longer day. Flying is the more expensive choice, but it is faster and far more comfortable for Sierra Leone families, older passengers and busy professionals.
Who from Sierra Leone needs a a2a visa change?
Since in country extension exists, a a2a visa change is the right move only when extension is no longer possible. Here is when it becomes the right choice for a Sierra Leone passport holder:
- You have reached the 120 day ceiling after extending a 30 day visa three times or a 60 day visa twice.
- Your UAE residence visa has been cancelled. A cancelled residency cannot be extended, so we convert your status to a 60 day tourist visa through a a2a visa change.
- You missed the extension deadline. With fines already running, a a2a visa change is the fastest way to regularise your status.
- Your entry stamp is one that immigration does not extend, which applies to some on arrival and multiple entry visas. We can confirm the rules for Sierra Leone passports on WhatsApp.
Why timing matters in 2026
Every day past expiry costs AED 50 in fines, whichever emirate issued the visa and whichever visa type you hold. Tourist and visit visas carry no grace period, which means fines begin immediately after the expiry date. After 30 days of overstay, an exit permit of roughly AED 250 to 300 becomes necessary as well. Because the fee is the same whenever you book, the smart move is to reach out while 10 to 15 days remain on your visa.

How much does a a2a visa change cost?
Our a2a visa change package is a 60 day single entry UAE tourist visa plus a flydubai return flight, priced at AED 1,550. The price is the same whether you are changing from a tourist visa or converting a cancelled residence visa. Included are the ticket, the visa processing and our WhatsApp guidance from booking to entry.
- New UAE tourist visa: 60 days, single entry
- Airline: flydubai, departing and returning at Dubai Terminal 2
- How you get it: a PDF copy on WhatsApp while you wait at the transit airport
- Help: a dedicated consultant on WhatsApp for the whole process
- Cost: AED 1,550 for each adult passenger
We do not offer a 30 day a2a visa change. A 30 day visa costs nearly the same to process and gives you half the time, so the 60 day option is better value in every case we see. Some nationalities carry an AED 100 surcharge for extended processing; we confirm on WhatsApp whether this applies to Sierra Leone citizens. Any overstay fine is settled by you at immigration before you fly and is separate from our fee.
A refundable security deposit may apply for some nationalities. It is separate from the visa price, it is returned after you exit the UAE at the end of your stay, and we confirm the amount for Sierra Leone passports on WhatsApp before you pay anything.
Instalment options
UAE residents booking a a2a visa change for a family member or friend from Sierra Leone can spread the AED 1,550 using Tabby with up to 12 months, Tamara with extendable terms, or a UAE credit card with 3, 6, 9 or 12 month plans depending on the issuing bank. Applicants who are not UAE residents pay through a secure online link.
Paperwork for a a2a visa change
WhatsApp us the following and expect an eligibility answer within about an hour:
- Passport scan showing the front page and the back cover. A missing back cover is the most common reason an application is returned, so please include both.
- A passport valid for six months or more from the date of travel, in good condition with two blank pages.
- A colour passport size photo on a white background, taken within the last six months, without glasses.
- A copy of the visa you are on now, or the official cancellation paper if your residency was cancelled.
A bank statement covering six months is required for certain passports. Where Sierra Leone citizens are affected, the statement of a family member living in the UAE is accepted. Bear in mind that immigration officers sometimes ask arriving passengers to show they can fund their stay, so keep a card or cash accessible. We also ask you to complete the short guarantee form at applyvisa.app before travel day.
The a2a visa change process from start to finish
Preparation
We lock in the flight, forward the ticket on WhatsApp and check that any outstanding fines have been paid online. Travellers whose visa is still valid pay nothing at immigration. Choose a Monday to Thursday departure. Friday flights carry a risk of weekend delays, since Saturday and Sunday are non working days for government offices.
At the airport
Plan to be at Dubai Terminal 2 five hours before the flight, check in and receive boarding passes for both sectors. WhatsApp us photos of both boarding passes before you go through immigration. Once immigration records your exit, your old visa closes and we file the new application immediately.
In Muscat, Kuwait or Doha
The hop to Muscat, Kuwait or Doha takes close to an hour. There is no need to enter the transit country; you stay airside and check in for the return sector. Typically the visa is granted in a few hours and we forward the PDF while you are still at the transit airport. Occasionally immigration orders a security check, extending the wait to 24 to 48 hours. You can remain at the airport and we will monitor the status with you.
Arrival at Terminal 2
If we have already sent the PDF, go straight to the eGate at Terminal 2. Without the PDF in hand, use a manual immigration counter rather than the eGate and remain in the designated area. Your 60 days begin on the entry date.
A2A versus extension versus bus
Where an extension is still possible, take it: the in country option costs AED 1,200 for 30 days and requires no flight. When you can no longer extend, a a2a visa change provides twice the stay of an extension for AED 1,550. The bus to Oman costs less, from AED 1,000 for residence cancellation and AED 1,400 to 1,500 for visit visa holders, but it takes a day or two and includes a night away. On balance, Sierra Leone citizens usually prefer the a2a visa change for its speed and comfort.

Why applications get delayed
- Leaving it to the last minute. Seats disappear around Eid, December and January, so contact us a week or more in advance.
- Less than six months on the passport. Immigration will not approve a visa in that case, so renew first.
- Spelling differences. Ticket and passport names must be identical, middle names included.
- Outstanding fines. Clear them in the GDRFA or ICP app before travel, or you will be stopped at immigration.
- Expecting extra days after expiry. The UAE gives visitors none, so plan around the exact date.
- Undisclosed history. Prior overstays, bans or uncancelled visas can lead to refusal, so share them with us upfront.
Questions Sierra Leone travellers ask us
How long does a a2a visa change take for a Sierra Leone passport?
Six to twelve hours is normal. Security checks occasionally push it to 24 to 48 hours, and you can wait at the airport throughout.
How many times can a Sierra Leone citizen do a a2a visa change?
You may repeat it, but approval is never automatic and repeated changes are scrutinised. One or two is typical.
Can I do a a2a visa change on a cancelled residence visa?
Yes. This is the most common case we handle. Your employer cancels the residency, you receive the cancellation paper, and we convert you to a 60 day tourist visa at the same AED 1,550 rate.
What is the destination?
Muscat is the most common, with Kuwait and Doha as alternatives, all within two hours of Dubai.
Will I need a visa for the other country?
No. For a same day return you stay in the international transit area and do not pass through the other country’s immigration.
What about children on Sierra Leone passports?
Yes. WhatsApp us all the passports and we will send one price for the family.
Is a refund possible if immigration refuses?
Refusals are rare. If immigration declines, you cannot re enter the UAE on the return flight and would need to travel onward. Visa processing fees are not refundable because they cover government costs, which is why we assess risk factors such as previous overstays or bans before you pay.
Is it lawful to do this?
Yes, completely. It follows standard immigration procedure, and a licensed agency such as ours submits the application through the proper system.
