a2a visa change for Spain citizens

For travellers from Spain, a a2a visa change means leaving the UAE on a short flight and coming back the same day with a brand new 60 day tourist visa. Our team books the flight, lodges the visa application at the right moment and guides you on WhatsApp through every stage of the day.

In short: Spain passport holders pay AED 1,550 for a a2a visa change, which covers the return flight from Dubai, the 60 day single entry visa and our coordination, with most travellers back in Dubai within six to twelve hours.

Looking to extend your stay in the UAE?

Let White Sky Travel help you process an airport visa change from a tourist visa, cancelled residence visa, or current visa on-arrival.

How a a2a visa change works

A a2a visa change works on one principle: you must be outside UAE territory before a new tourist visa can be activated against your passport. Because the new permit can only be granted to someone who is outside the UAE, Spain citizens must exit before the visa is approved. Flying is the fastest way to satisfy that rule. The usual routing from Dubai is to Muscat, Kuwait City or Doha, and most travellers are back in the arrivals hall at Terminal 2 within six to twelve hours of departure.

There is also a bus option to Oman, but it takes a full day or more and includes an overnight stay. Although a a2a visa change is dearer than the bus option, the time saved makes it the sensible choice for most Spain visitors.

Is a a2a visa change the right option for you?

Most 30 day and 60 day UAE visit visas can now be extended from inside the country, so a a2a visa change is not always necessary. Here is when it becomes the right choice for a Spain passport holder:

  • Your extensions are exhausted: three for a 30 day visa, two for a 60 day visa, with 120 days as the overall limit.
  • Your residency was cancelled and you need more time in the UAE. The only route is a new tourist visa, which a a2a visa change provides.
  • Your visa has already expired. Extensions must be filed before expiry, so once the date has passed the practical solution is to settle the fine and exit through a a2a visa change.
  • You hold a permit that is not extendable from inside the UAE. Send us a photo of your visa on WhatsApp and we will advise the correct route for a Spain passport.

The 2026 rule every Spain visitor should know

An expired visa attracts a fine of AED 50 per day, and that figure is the same for every visa category and every emirate. Tourist and visit visas carry no grace period, which means fines begin immediately after the expiry date. Overstays beyond 30 days also require an exit permit, usually AED 250 to 300, on top of the daily fine. Booking early costs nothing extra, so we advise Spain travellers to message us with 10 to 15 days left on the current visa.

How much does a a2a visa change cost?

The package for Spain passport holders is straightforward: AED 1,550 for a 60 day single entry visa and the return flight on flydubai. The price is the same whether you are changing from a tourist visa or converting a cancelled residence visa. That figure pays for the flydubai ticket, the visa itself and our coordination on travel day.

  • What you receive: a 60 day single entry tourist visa for the UAE
  • Flight: flydubai return ticket from Dubai Terminal 2 to Muscat, Kuwait City or Doha
  • Processing: visa applied while you are outside the UAE and sent to your WhatsApp as a PDF
  • Assistance: WhatsApp support throughout, including on the day of travel
  • Rate: AED 1,550 per person

We only sell the 60 day a2a visa change, since a 30 day visa would cost nearly as much for half the validity. Some nationalities carry an AED 100 surcharge for extended processing; we confirm on WhatsApp whether this applies to Spain citizens. Overstay fines, if any, are paid by the traveller at the immigration desk before departure and are not part of the package.

Some Spain applicants may need to place a refundable security deposit. It is independent of the visa price, is returned after you exit the country, and we state the amount clearly on WhatsApp first.

Payment plans for UAE residents

For UAE residents sponsoring a Spain family member or friend, the AED 1,550 can be split with Tabby up to 12 months, Tamara on extendable terms, or a UAE credit card over 3, 6, 9 or 12 months according to the bank. Other travellers pay by a secure online payment link that we send on WhatsApp.

Paperwork for a a2a visa change

Send these on WhatsApp and we can usually confirm eligibility within the hour:

  1. Front page and back cover of the passport. Applications are most frequently sent back because the back cover was left out.
  2. At least six months remaining validity, two empty pages, and no torn or water damaged pages.
  3. A recent colour photograph, white background, passport dimensions, no glasses.
  4. A copy of the visa you are on now, or the official cancellation paper if your residency was cancelled.

Depending on nationality, a six month bank statement may be requested. If that applies to Spain applicants, a UAE resident family member can provide theirs instead. Please also carry a card or some cash on the return flight, since immigration can ask arriving visitors to show proof of funds. Before the flight we will send you a link to the guarantee form at applyvisa.app, which takes a few minutes to complete.

What happens on the day

Preparation

We lock in the flight, forward the ticket on WhatsApp and check that any outstanding fines have been paid online. With a valid visa, no payment is due at the airport. We always advise Spain travellers to fly Monday to Thursday, because a Friday departure that hits a delay can mean waiting through the Saturday and Sunday weekend.

Departure from Dubai

Get to Terminal 2 five hours ahead, complete flydubai check in and take both boarding passes. WhatsApp us photos of both boarding passes before you go through immigration. Once immigration records your exit, your old visa closes and we file the new application immediately.

At the transit airport

You will be in the air for about an hour. You stay in the international transit zone, so no visa for Oman, Kuwait or Qatar is required. Most applications clear within a few hours, and the approved visa reaches your WhatsApp as a PDF. Should a security check be triggered, expect 24 to 48 hours. The airline lets you wait airside and we stay on WhatsApp until the visa is issued.

Arrival at Terminal 2

If we have already sent the PDF, go straight to the eGate at Terminal 2. Should the visa still be pending on landing, avoid the eGate, use the manual counters and wait in the Terminal 2 holding area until we confirm. The new 60 day visa starts counting from the day you re enter.

Choosing between a a2a visa change, extension and the Oman bus

If you still have an in country extension available, use it first; a 30 day extension without exit costs AED 1,200 and needs no travel. Once extension is off the table, the a2a visa change is the better option, giving 60 days for AED 1,550. Travellers on a tight budget sometimes choose the Oman bus, which starts at AED 1,000 for cancelled residents or AED 1,400 to 1,500 for visitors, at the cost of an overnight trip. Most Spain passport holders find the flight worth the difference for the time it saves.

What can go wrong and how to avoid it

  • Late bookings. Demand spikes at Eid, in December and in January, so start early.
  • Less than six months on the passport. Immigration will not approve a visa in that case, so renew first.
  • Ticket name errors. We need the full name exactly as printed in the Spain passport.
  • Overstay fines still due. Pay them in advance through the GDRFA or ICP app.
  • Expecting extra days after expiry. The UAE gives visitors none, so plan around the exact date.
  • Past visa violations. Be open with us so that we can advise whether a a2a visa change is likely to succeed.

Answers for Spain citizens

How long will I be away from Dubai?

Typically six to twelve hours from departure to re entry. Some applications need 24 to 48 hours if immigration orders a security check, and the airline allows you to wait at the airport in that case.

Is there a limit on repeat visa changes?

You may repeat it, but approval is never automatic and repeated changes are scrutinised. One or two is typical.

Does this work after residency cancellation?

Absolutely. Cancelled residents from Spain are converted to a 60 day tourist visa through a a2a visa change at the standard AED 1,550.

Where does the flight go?

The destination is usually Muscat, though Kuwait City and Doha are also used. All three allow a same day turnaround.

Is a transit visa required?

No. You remain airside at the transit airport, so no visa for that country is needed.

Can I bring my family?

Yes. Children require individual tickets and visas, and we prepare a single quote for the whole family.

What happens on rejection?

Rejection is uncommon. Should it happen, you would need to fly on to your home country or another destination, and the visa fee is not refundable as it is a government charge. We flag risks before booking so that this does not come as a surprise.

Is it lawful to do this?

Yes. You leave on the current visa and return on a new one granted by UAE immigration. Using a licensed agency keeps the application within official channels.
