a2a visa change for Sri Lanka passport

If you hold a Sri Lanka passport and your UAE visit visa is close to expiry, a a2a visa change is the quickest legal route to a fresh 60 day tourist visa. We take care of the flydubai booking, the visa submission and the timing, so Sri Lanka travellers spend the least possible time away from Dubai.

Quick answer: a a2a visa change for a Sri Lanka passport costs AED 1,550 flat, includes a flydubai return ticket and a 60 day single entry UAE tourist visa, and normally takes six to twelve hours from departure to re entry.

Looking to extend your stay in the UAE?

Let White Sky Travel help you process an airport visa change from a tourist visa, cancelled residence visa, or current visa on-arrival.

The meaning of a2a visa change for Sri Lanka passport holders

A a2a visa change works on one principle: you must be outside UAE territory before a new tourist visa can be activated against your passport. The rule is that the applicant, in this case a Sri Lanka passport holder, must be abroad when the new visa is processed. Flying is the fastest way to satisfy that rule. From Dubai you would normally fly to Muscat, Kuwait City or Doha and return to Terminal 2 within six to twelve hours.

There is also a bus option to Oman, but it takes a full day or more and includes an overnight stay. The flight route is pricier than the bus, but it saves an entire day and works better for families, seniors and people who cannot take time off.

Who from Sri Lanka needs a a2a visa change?

Most 30 day and 60 day UAE visit visas can now be extended from inside the country, so a a2a visa change is not always necessary. You will need a a2a visa change on a Sri Lanka passport if any of the following applies:

  • You have reached the 120 day ceiling after extending a 30 day visa three times or a 60 day visa twice.
  • You are on a cancelled residence visa and want to stay on as a visitor while you find a new job. A a2a visa change gives you a 60 day tourist visa.
  • Your visa has already expired. Extensions must be filed before expiry, so once the date has passed the practical solution is to settle the fine and exit through a a2a visa change.
  • You hold a permit that is not extendable from inside the UAE. Send us a photo of your visa on WhatsApp and we will advise the correct route for a Sri Lanka passport.

Do not wait until the last day

The overstay fine in the UAE is AED 50 per day, applied uniformly to tourist, visit and residence visas in every emirate. No grace period applies to visit visas, so the counter starts the very next day. Overstays beyond 30 days also require an exit permit, usually AED 250 to 300, on top of the daily fine. Booking early costs nothing extra, so we advise Sri Lanka travellers to message us with 10 to 15 days left on the current visa.

a2a visa change price for Sri Lanka passport holders

We offer one product: a 60 day single entry UAE tourist visa with a flydubai return ticket for AED 1,550. The price is the same whether you are changing from a tourist visa or converting a cancelled residence visa. It covers the airline ticket, the visa fee and our coordination before, during and after the flight.

  • New UAE tourist visa: 60 days, single entry
  • Ticket: flydubai return from Dubai International Terminal 2 to a nearby GCC airport
  • How you get it: a PDF copy on WhatsApp while you wait at the transit airport
  • Help: a dedicated consultant on WhatsApp for the whole process
  • Rate: AED 1,550 per person

A 30 day a2a visa change is not available through us because the processing cost is similar and the value is poorer than the 60 day visa. Some nationalities carry an AED 100 surcharge for extended processing; we confirm on WhatsApp whether this applies to Sri Lanka citizens. Overstay fines, if any, are paid by the traveller at the immigration desk before departure and are not part of the package.

Certain passports may be asked for a refundable security deposit. This is not part of the visa fee, it is refunded once you leave the UAE, and we will tell Sri Lanka travellers the exact figure on WhatsApp in advance.

Pay in instalments

Residents of the UAE who book on behalf of Sri Lanka visitors can use Tabby for up to 12 months, Tamara with extendable repayment, or a UAE credit card with 3, 6, 9 or 12 month terms set by the card issuer. Applicants who are not UAE residents pay through a secure online link.

Documents required for a Sri Lanka passport

Share these four items on WhatsApp and we will confirm whether we can proceed, typically within the hour:

  1. Front page and back cover of the passport. Applications are most frequently sent back because the back cover was left out.
  2. Six months minimum validity from your flight date, two blank pages, and a passport in clean condition.
  3. A recent colour photograph, white background, passport dimensions, no glasses.
  4. Your current visa copy, either the tourist visa you hold or the residence cancellation paper.

A bank statement covering six months is required for certain passports. Where Sri Lanka citizens are affected, the statement of a family member living in the UAE is accepted. Please also carry a card or some cash on the return flight, since immigration can ask arriving visitors to show proof of funds. We also ask you to complete the short guarantee form at applyvisa.app before travel day.

a2a visa change step by step for Sri Lanka travellers

The day before you fly

Once your documents are approved we book the flydubai seat, send you the ticket and ask you to clear any fines in the GDRFA or ICP app. If you are within your visa validity, the airport stage costs nothing extra. Book for Monday to Thursday if you can, as a Friday delay can stretch over the weekend.

Departure from Dubai

Arrive at Dubai International Terminal 2 around five hours before departure, check in at the flydubai counter and collect both boarding passes. Take clear photos of the two passes and send them to your consultant on WhatsApp. Your exit stamp ends the current visa, and we lodge the fresh visa the instant the exit appears in the system.

At the transit airport

The flight takes around one hour. Because you do not leave the airport, Sri Lanka passport holders need no visa for the transit country. Typically the visa is granted in a few hours and we forward the PDF while you are still at the transit airport. If your application is referred for a security check, approval can take 24 to 48 hours. Both flydubai and Air Arabia allow passengers to wait at the airport until the visa is approved, and we stay in contact throughout.

Back in the UAE

Once you have the PDF from us, you can use the eGate at Terminal 2 for a quick entry. If approval has not come through yet, skip the eGate, approach a manual counter and stay in the waiting area until we send the PDF. The visa clock starts on the date of re entry.

Choosing between a a2a visa change, extension and the Oman bus

An in country extension at AED 1,200 for 30 days is the simplest route if you are still eligible. Once extension is off the table, the a2a visa change is the better option, giving 60 days for AED 1,550. The bus visa change is cheaper, beginning at AED 1,000 for cancelled residents and AED 1,400 to 1,500 for tourist visa holders, but it needs one to two days and an overnight stop. For most Sri Lanka visitors the flight is the better balance of time, comfort and certainty.

Common problems for Sri Lanka applicants and how we prevent them

  • Leaving it to the last minute. Seats disappear around Eid, December and January, so contact us a week or more in advance.
  • Short passport validity. Applications on passports with under six months remaining are refused.
  • Spelling differences. Ticket and passport names must be identical, middle names included.
  • Fines left unpaid. Settle everything online before the flight to avoid being held at the exit counter.
  • Expecting extra days after expiry. The UAE gives visitors none, so plan around the exact date.
  • Past visa violations. Be open with us so that we can advise whether a a2a visa change is likely to succeed.

Answers for Sri Lanka citizens

How long will I be away from Dubai?

Six to twelve hours is normal. Security checks occasionally push it to 24 to 48 hours, and you can wait at the airport throughout.

How many times can a Sri Lanka citizen do a a2a visa change?

There is no fixed limit, but every application is assessed on its own and repeated back to back changes attract closer scrutiny. Most of our clients do one or two before moving to a residence visa or leaving the UAE.

My residency was cancelled. Can I still apply?

Yes, and it is the situation we see most often. Once you have the cancellation paper, we process a 60 day tourist visa for AED 1,550.

What is the destination?

The destination is usually Muscat, though Kuwait City and Doha are also used. All three allow a same day turnaround.

Do Sri Lanka passport holders need an Oman visa for this?

No visa is required because you never clear immigration in the transit country.

Is there a family option?

Certainly. Every family member, including children, needs a ticket and visa, and we arrange all of them together.

What if immigration declines the application?

Rejection is uncommon. Should it happen, you would need to fly on to your home country or another destination, and the visa fee is not refundable as it is a government charge. We flag risks before booking so that this does not come as a surprise.

Is it lawful to do this?

Yes, completely. It follows standard immigration procedure, and a licensed agency such as ours submits the application through the proper system.
