a2a visa change for United Kingdom citizens

When a visitor from United Kingdom has run out of extension options, a a2a visa change is the practical answer: a short flight out, a new visa issued while you wait, and a return within hours. At White Sky Travel we book the return flight, file the new visa as soon as your exit stamp is recorded, and keep in touch on WhatsApp from check in to arrival.

In short: United Kingdom passport holders pay AED 1,550 for a a2a visa change, which covers the return flight from Dubai, the 60 day single entry visa and our coordination, with most travellers back in Dubai within six to twelve hours.

Looking to extend your stay in the UAE?

Let White Sky Travel help you process an airport visa change from a tourist visa, cancelled residence visa, or current visa on-arrival.

What is a a2a visa change?

A a2a visa change works on one principle: you must be outside UAE territory before a new tourist visa can be activated against your passport. The rule is that the applicant, in this case a United Kingdom passport holder, must be abroad when the new visa is processed. A short flight is the quickest way to meet that condition. The usual routing from Dubai is to Muscat, Kuwait City or Doha, and most travellers are back in the arrivals hall at Terminal 2 within six to twelve hours of departure.

A bus visa change through Oman exists as well, but it costs a night away and a much longer day. Flying is the more expensive choice, but it is faster and far more comfortable for United Kingdom families, older passengers and busy professionals.

Situations where United Kingdom citizens need a a2a visa change

Since in country extension exists, a a2a visa change is the right move only when extension is no longer possible. For United Kingdom citizens, the following circumstances call for a a2a visa change:

  • All your extensions are used up. The UAE allows a 30 day visa to be extended three times and a 60 day visa twice, and total stay cannot go beyond 120 days.
  • Your employer has cancelled your residence visa. Cancellation papers cannot be extended, so a a2a visa change converts you to a 60 day tourist visa.
  • You missed the extension deadline. With fines already running, a a2a visa change is the fastest way to regularise your status.
  • Your visa category is not eligible for extension. We check this for United Kingdom citizens on WhatsApp before you spend anything.

Overstay fines and why you should book early

UAE authorities charge AED 50 for every day a visit visa remains expired, and the same flat rate applies across all visa types and emirates. There is no grace period on tourist and visit visas, so the fine starts the day after expiry. After 30 days of overstay, an exit permit of roughly AED 250 to 300 becomes necessary as well. A a2a visa change booked ten days before expiry costs exactly the same as one booked on the last day, so we recommend contacting us when you still have 10 to 15 days remaining.

a2a visa change price for United Kingdom passport holders

We offer one product: a 60 day single entry UAE tourist visa with a flydubai return ticket for AED 1,550. Tourist visa holders and cancelled residents pay an identical amount. Included are the ticket, the visa processing and our WhatsApp guidance from booking to entry.

  • Visa issued: 60 day single entry UAE tourist visa
  • Airline: flydubai, departing and returning at Dubai Terminal 2
  • Processing: visa applied while you are outside the UAE and sent to your WhatsApp as a PDF
  • Help: a dedicated consultant on WhatsApp for the whole process
  • Cost: AED 1,550 for each adult passenger

We do not offer a 30 day a2a visa change. A 30 day visa costs nearly the same to process and gives you half the time, so the 60 day option is better value in every case we see. Some nationalities carry an AED 100 surcharge for extended processing; we confirm on WhatsApp whether this applies to United Kingdom citizens. If you have overstayed, the fine is paid directly to immigration and is not included in the AED 1,550.

Certain passports may be asked for a refundable security deposit. This is not part of the visa fee, it is refunded once you leave the UAE, and we will tell United Kingdom travellers the exact figure on WhatsApp in advance.

Pay in instalments

Residents of the UAE who book on behalf of United Kingdom visitors can use Tabby for up to 12 months, Tamara with extendable repayment, or a UAE credit card with 3, 6, 9 or 12 month terms set by the card issuer. Other travellers pay by a secure online payment link that we send on WhatsApp.

What United Kingdom citizens need to send us

Share these four items on WhatsApp and we will confirm whether we can proceed, typically within the hour:

  1. Passport scan showing the front page and the back cover. A missing back cover is the most common reason an application is returned, so please include both.
  2. Six months minimum validity from your flight date, two blank pages, and a passport in clean condition.
  3. One colour passport photo on a plain white background, no more than six months old.
  4. A copy of the visa you are on now, or the official cancellation paper if your residency was cancelled.

A bank statement covering six months is required for certain passports. Where United Kingdom citizens are affected, the statement of a family member living in the UAE is accepted. Bear in mind that immigration officers sometimes ask arriving passengers to show they can fund their stay, so keep a card or cash accessible. Before the flight we will send you a link to the guarantee form at applyvisa.app, which takes a few minutes to complete.

The day before you fly

Once your documents are approved we book the flydubai seat, send you the ticket and ask you to clear any fines in the GDRFA or ICP app. With a valid visa, no payment is due at the airport. Choose a Monday to Thursday departure. Friday flights carry a risk of weekend delays, since Saturday and Sunday are non working days for government offices.

Check in and exit at Dubai Terminal 2

Plan to be at Dubai Terminal 2 five hours before the flight, check in and receive boarding passes for both sectors. Photograph both passes and send them to us on WhatsApp. Immigration then stamps you out, which formally ends your current visa, and the moment your exit registers we submit your new visa application.

At the transit airport

The flight takes around one hour. You stay in the international transit zone, so no visa for Oman, Kuwait or Qatar is required. In standard cases the new visa is approved within a few hours and we send the PDF to your WhatsApp before your return flight. Occasionally immigration orders a security check, extending the wait to 24 to 48 hours. You can remain at the airport and we will monitor the status with you.

Back in the UAE

With the visa PDF on your phone, the eGate at Terminal 2 gives you a fast entry. If approval has not come through yet, skip the eGate, approach a manual counter and stay in the waiting area until we send the PDF. Your 60 days begin on the entry date.

A2A versus extension versus bus

Before flying, check whether you qualify for the AED 1,200 in country extension, which adds 30 days without leaving. A a2a visa change steps in when extension ends, and it gives 60 days instead of 30. The bus visa change is cheaper, beginning at AED 1,000 for cancelled residents and AED 1,400 to 1,500 for tourist visa holders, but it needs one to two days and an overnight stop. On balance, United Kingdom citizens usually prefer the a2a visa change for its speed and comfort.

What can go wrong and how to avoid it

  • Booking too late. Flights sell out around Eid, December and the January peak, so message us at least a week ahead.
  • Short passport validity. Applications on passports with under six months remaining are refused.
  • Name mismatch. The name on the ticket must match the United Kingdom passport exactly, including middle names.
  • Unpaid fines. Immigration will not let you board with outstanding overstay fines, so check and pay through the GDRFA or ICP app before you reach the airport.
  • Assuming a grace period. There is none, so a visa expiring on the 10th must be extended or exited by the 10th.
  • Hidden immigration records. Let us know about earlier problems so we can assess the risk honestly before booking.

Questions United Kingdom travellers ask us

How long does a a2a visa change take for a United Kingdom passport?

Six to twelve hours is normal. Security checks occasionally push it to 24 to 48 hours, and you can wait at the airport throughout.

How many times can a United Kingdom citizen do a a2a visa change?

You may repeat it, but approval is never automatic and repeated changes are scrutinised. One or two is typical.

Does this work after residency cancellation?

Absolutely. Cancelled residents from United Kingdom are converted to a 60 day tourist visa through a a2a visa change at the standard AED 1,550.

Which country will I transit through?

Muscat is the most common, with Kuwait and Doha as alternatives, all within two hours of Dubai.

Will I need a visa for the other country?

No. For a same day return you stay in the international transit area and do not pass through the other country’s immigration.

What about children on United Kingdom passports?

Yes. Children require individual tickets and visas, and we prepare a single quote for the whole family.

What if immigration declines the application?

Refusal is rare but final. You would need to travel elsewhere and the visa fee is retained by the authorities. Our pre check is designed to catch problems early.

Is it lawful to do this?

Yes. You leave on the current visa and return on a new one granted by UAE immigration. Using a licensed agency keeps the application within official channels.
