Portugal passport Visa extension: fees, rules and process

When a Portugal citizen wants more time in the UAE, a Visa extension adds 30 days to the current visit visa from inside the country. The fee is AED 1,200 for each 30 day extension, approval normally arrives in two to three working days, and everything is handled on WhatsApp. Here is everything a Portugal traveller needs to know before applying: fees, limits, deadlines, paperwork and the alternatives when extension is no longer possible.

The essentials for Portugal citizens: AED 1,200 per 30 day extension, no exit required, two to three working days processing, a 120 day ceiling on total stay, and a five to seven day lead time before expiry. Only the issuing agency can process it.

The meaning of Visa extension for Portugal passport holders

An in country Visa extension extends the visa you already hold rather than issuing a fresh one. The request goes to immigration under the account that issued the visa, and approval extends the expiry date linked to your Portugal passport. You do not leave the country at any point; the approval arrives on WhatsApp while you carry on with your stay.

Visa change by air or by bus means exiting and re entering on a new visa; a Visa extension avoids the exit altogether. For Portugal visitors who still qualify, the extension is the cheapest and least disruptive option, and it is the one we recommend first.

Who from Portugal can apply for a Visa extension?

A Visa extension is available when the visa type allows it, the extension count has not been exhausted, and the application goes through the original issuer. Send us a copy of your current visa on WhatsApp and we will confirm within the hour whether a Portugal passport can be extended, or whether an exit route is the better option.

  • Visit and tourist visa holders on a 30 day or 60 day visa issued through a travel agency. A 30 day visa can be extended three times and a 60 day visa twice, each by 30 days.
  • Applicants whose total stay, including the new extension, will not exceed 120 days from the original entry date.
  • Holders of a visa issued by us. The UAE system routes extension requests through the issuing agency, which is why the same agency rule applies.

Where another agency issued the visa, either contact them for the extension or book an exit route with us: airport to airport at AED 1,550 or the Oman bus from AED 1,000, both of which issue a new 60 day visa whatever the original source. On arrival stamps and residence visas fall outside this service.

UAE visit visa extension charges for Portugal citizens

We charge AED 1,200 for every 30 day extension regardless of nationality, so Portugal citizens pay exactly this figure.

  • 30 day extension: AED 1,200
  • Two month visa extension: AED 2,400, processed as two consecutive 30 day extensions

The AED 1,200 includes the immigration fee and our service. It cannot be refunded on refusal, since the government charge is paid when the application is lodged. If a fine has accrued, it is paid to immigration in addition to the extension fee. For 30 extra days the extension is cheaper and simpler than any exit route; for a full 60 days with no extensions remaining, the airport to airport change or the bus route becomes the better buy for Portugal travellers.

Pay in monthly instalments

UAE residents arranging a Visa extension for a family member or friend from Portugal can split the AED 1,200 using Tabby with up to 12 months, Tamara with extendable terms, or a UAE credit card with 3, 6, 9 or 12 month plans depending on the issuing bank. All other applicants receive a secure online payment link. Family extensions are handled together, and the combined total can be split the same way.

Paperwork for a Visa extension

Because your record already exists with immigration, we only need the following on WhatsApp:

  1. A scan of the passport, valid for a minimum of six months.
  2. A colour passport size photo on a white background, without glasses.
  3. The current visa copy, which we use to check the expiry date and remaining extensions.

Bank statements, hotel confirmations and return tickets are not part of the extension application. Immigration may occasionally request an additional document on a case by case basis, and we will tell you immediately if that happens for a Portugal passport.

How to apply for a Visa extension from Portugal

  1. WhatsApp your documents to +971 52 292 1011 or +971 4 220 2133 a week before expiry. We verify the dates and confirm whether a Portugal passport can be extended.
  2. Pay through the secure link or instalment plan we send. Submission to immigration starts only after payment is received.
  3. The extension is filed and monitored by our team. Expect two to three working days for most Portugal applicants, subject to immigration’s discretion.
  4. You receive the approved extension as a PDF on WhatsApp showing the new expiry date. Keep it with your passport for the rest of your stay.

Do not wait until the last day

An extension is only possible on a live visa, which is why the expiry date is the hard deadline. Allow five to seven days: two to three working days for processing, plus a buffer for weekends and holidays. For consecutive extensions, submit each new request a few days before the previous extension expires and track your cumulative stay against the 120 day limit.

No grace period and the AED 50 daily fine

Once a visit visa expires, no extra days are granted. An expired visa attracts AED 50 per day in fines from day one, and the rate is the same everywhere in the UAE. If the overstay passes 30 days, an exit permit of around AED 250 to 300 is required on top of the fines. If your visa has already expired, extension is off the table; the practical route is to pay the fine and exit through an airport to airport change or the bus to Oman, and we can arrange either.

Options for Portugal visitors after 120 days

At 120 days total, Portugal passport holders must leave the UAE. The choices are an airport to airport change (AED 1,550, same day, flydubai), the Oman bus route (from AED 1,000, about a day), going home and applying afresh, or moving to a residence visa where a sponsor exists. The two exit routes each provide a fresh 60 day visa whoever issued the first one, and we organise both.

Why extensions get refused or delayed

  • Leaving it to the last day. An expired visa cannot be extended, so allow a week.
  • Not knowing who issued the visa. Ask the person who arranged it, since the extension has to go through that agency.
  • Losing track of cumulative days. The 120 day cap runs from first entry, including every extension.
  • Short passport validity, which leads to refusal.
  • Applying with an arrival stamp or residency, which cannot be extended through an agency.

Questions Portugal travellers ask us

Can Portugal passport holders extend in country?

Yes, without leaving the country. The conditions are an agency issued 30 or 60 day visa, extensions still available, a total stay under 120 days, and processing through the issuing agency.

What is the 1 month visa extension price in Dubai?

AED 1,200 for a 30 day extension and AED 2,400 for 60 days, with no nationality surcharge for Portugal citizens.

How long does a Visa extension take?

Typically two to three working days, excluding weekends and public holidays. Immigration can take longer in some cases, which is why a five to seven day lead time is recommended.

What is the maximum stay?

Up to three times for a 30 day visa and twice for a 60 day visa, always within a 120 day ceiling.

What if my visa came from a different agency?

The same agency rule applies to every nationality, Portugal included. If we did not issue the visa, we cannot extend it, but we can reset you on a new 60 day visa by air (AED 1,550) or bus (from AED 1,000).

Is there a grace period after my visa expires?

No grace days exist. Overstaying costs AED 50 per day from day one, plus an exit permit of approximately AED 250 to 300 once the overstay passes 30 days.

Can spouse and children extend at the same time?

Certainly. We extend the whole family at once, and residents sponsoring Portugal relatives can pay the combined AED 1,200 per person on an instalment plan.

What if my extension is refused?

Rejection is uncommon for eligible applications. Fees are not refunded on refusal, since immigration retains the charge, and the fallback is an exit route before the visa expires. Our pre check is designed to catch problems early.
