Is a a2a visa change the right option for you?

Since in country extension exists, a a2a visa change is the right move only when extension is no longer possible. You will need a a2a visa change on a Cyprus passport if any of the following applies:

• You have reached the 120 day ceiling after extending a 30 day visa three times or a 60 day visa twice.
• Your UAE residence visa has been cancelled. A cancelled residency cannot be extended, so we convert your status to a 60 day tourist visa through a a2a visa change.

Do not wait until the last day

Every day past expiry costs AED 50 in fines, whichever emirate issued the visa and whichever visa type you hold. We do not offer a 30 day a2a visa change. A 30 day visa costs nearly the same to process and gives you half the time, so the 60 day option is better value in every case we see. Some nationalities carry an AED 100 surcharge for extended processing; we confirm on WhatsApp whether this applies to Cyprus citizens. Any overstay fine is settled by you at immigration before you fly and is separate from our fee.

A bank statement covering six months is required for certain passports. Where Cyprus citizens are affected, the statement of a family member living in the UAE is accepted. How the day unfolds for a Cyprus passport holder

Preparation

Once your documents are approved we book the flydubai seat, send you the ticket and ask you to clear any fines in the GDRFA or ICP app. If you are within your visa validity, the airport stage costs nothing extra. We always advise Cyprus travellers to fly Monday to Thursday, because a Friday departure that hits a delay can mean waiting through the Saturday and Sunday weekend.

Departure from Dubai

Plan to be at Dubai Terminal 2 five hours before the flight, check in and receive boarding passes for both sectors. Send us a picture of each boarding pass on WhatsApp straight away. Once immigration records your exit, your old visa closes and we file the new application immediately.

While you wait abroad

You will be in the air for about an hour. You remain in the transit area and do not need to clear immigration in Oman, Kuwait or Qatar for a same day return. Most applications clear within a few hours, and the approved visa reaches your WhatsApp as a PDF. A small number of applications go to security check, which can add 24 to 48 hours. Airlines permit you to wait at the airport, and we keep you updated until it clears.

Returning to Dubai

Once you have the PDF from us, you can use the eGate at Terminal 2 for a quick entry. If the visa is still processing when you land, do not use the eGate; go to a manual immigration counter and wait in the designated area until we confirm approval. Your 60 days begin on the entry date.

A2A versus extension versus bus

Before flying, check whether you qualify for the AED 1,200 in country extension, which adds 30 days without leaving. A a2a visa change becomes the right choice the moment extension is no longer possible, and it delivers 60 days rather than 30 for AED 1,550. The bus to Oman costs less, from AED 1,000 for residence cancellation and AED 1,400 to 1,500 for visit visa holders, but it takes a day or two and includes a night away. On balance, Cyprus citizens usually prefer the a2a visa change for its speed and comfort.

What can go wrong and how to avoid it

• Leaving it to the last minute. Seats disappear around Eid, December and January, so contact us a week or more in advance.
• Passport validity under six months. Renew before you travel, as immigration will not issue a visa against a short validity passport.
• Ticket name errors. We need the full name exactly as printed in the Cyprus passport.
• Unpaid fines. Immigration will not let you board with outstanding overstay fines, so check and pay through the GDRFA or ICP app before you reach the airport.
• Counting on grace days. Visit visas have no grace period, so act before the printed expiry date.
