The usual routing from Dubai is to Muscat, Kuwait City or Doha, and most travellers are back in the arrivals hall at Terminal 2 within six to twelve hours of departure.

A bus visa change through Oman exists as well, but it costs a night away and a much longer day. Although a a2a visa change is dearer than the bus option, the time saved makes it the sensible choice for most Hungary visitors.

When Hungary passport holders need a a2a visa change

A a2a visa change is a fallback, because the UAE allows visit visa extension without exit in many cases. These are the situations where Hungary travellers should book one:

• Your extensions are exhausted: three for a 30 day visa, two for a 60 day visa, with 120 days as the overall limit.
• Your employer has cancelled your residence visa. Cancellation papers cannot be extended, so a a2a visa change converts you to a 60 day tourist visa.
• Your visa expired before you applied for an extension. In that case you pay the overstay fine and exit on a a2a visa change.

Do not wait until the last day

The overstay fine in the UAE is AED 50 per day, applied uniformly to tourist, visit and residence visas in every emirate. Visitors do not receive any grace days, and the fine runs from the first day of overstay. A bank statement covering six months is required for certain passports. Where Hungary citizens are affected, the statement of a family member living in the UAE is accepted. The day before you fly

After verification we book flydubai, send your ticket and confirm that you have no unpaid fines on the GDRFA or ICP system. If you are within your visa validity, the airport stage costs nothing extra. We always advise Hungary travellers to fly Monday to Thursday, because a Friday departure that hits a delay can mean waiting through the Saturday and Sunday weekend.

Leaving the UAE

Arrive at Dubai International Terminal 2 around five hours before departure, check in at the flydubai counter and collect both boarding passes. Send us a picture of each boarding pass on WhatsApp straight away. Your exit stamp ends the current visa, and we lodge the fresh visa the instant the exit appears in the system.

In Muscat, Kuwait or Doha

The flight takes around one hour. Because you do not leave the airport, Hungary passport holders need no visa for the transit country. The airline lets you wait airside and we stay on WhatsApp until the visa is issued.

Back in the UAE

If we have already sent the PDF, go straight to the eGate at Terminal 2. Without the PDF in hand, use a manual immigration counter rather than the eGate and remain in the designated area. Your 60 days begin on the entry date.

Should Hungary travellers extend, fly or take the bus?

Where an extension is still possible, take it: the in country option costs AED 1,200 for 30 days and requires no flight. A a2a visa change becomes the right choice the moment extension is no longer possible, and it delivers 60 days rather than 30 for AED 1,550. The bus to Oman costs less, from AED 1,000 for residence cancellation and AED 1,400 to 1,500 for visit visa holders, but it takes a day or two and includes a night away. For most Hungary visitors the flight is the better balance of time, comfort and certainty.

What can go wrong and how to avoid it

• Booking too late. Flights sell out around Eid, December and the January peak, so message us at least a week ahead.
• A passport expiring within six months. Renew it before attempting a a2a visa change.
• Spelling differences. Ticket and passport names must be identical, middle names included.
• Outstanding fines. Clear them in the GDRFA or ICP app before travel, or you will be stopped at immigration.
• Believing there is a buffer. There is not, and fines start the day after expiry.
