How a a2a visa change works

A a2a visa change is an exit and re entry. Immigration only links a new visa to a India passport once the holder has left the UAE, which is why the flight is essential. Flying is the fastest way to satisfy that rule. The usual routing from Dubai is to Muscat, Kuwait City or Doha, and most travellers are back in the arrivals hall at Terminal 2 within six to twelve hours of departure.

The land alternative is the visa change by bus to Oman, which takes longer and involves a night near the border. The flight route is pricier than the bus, but it saves an entire day and works better for families, seniors and people who cannot take time off.

Is a a2a visa change the right option for you?

Since in country extension exists, a a2a visa change is the right move only when extension is no longer possible. These are the situations where India travellers should book one:

• Your extensions are exhausted: three for a 30 day visa, two for a 60 day visa, with 120 days as the overall limit.
• Your employer has cancelled your residence visa. Cancellation papers cannot be extended, so a a2a visa change converts you to a 60 day tourist visa.
• Your visa expired before you applied for an extension. In that case you pay the overstay fine and exit on a a2a visa change.

Do not wait until the last day

Every day past expiry costs AED 50 in fines, whichever emirate issued the visa and whichever visa type you hold. Tourist and visit visas carry no grace period, which means fines begin immediately after the expiry date. Anyone who overstays by more than 30 days also needs an exit permit, typically AED 250 to 300, before they can leave. Preparation

Once your documents are approved we book the flydubai seat, send you the ticket and ask you to clear any fines in the GDRFA or ICP app. With a valid visa, no payment is due at the airport. We always advise India travellers to fly Monday to Thursday, because a Friday departure that hits a delay can mean waiting through the Saturday and Sunday weekend.

At the airport

Reach Terminal 2 at Dubai International about five hours early, check in with flydubai and ask for the outbound and return boarding passes together. Take clear photos of the two passes and send them to your consultant on WhatsApp. After the exit is registered, we submit the new tourist visa application for your India passport without delay.

The waiting period

You will be in the air for about an hour. Because you do not leave the airport, India passport holders need no visa for the transit country. Back in the UAE

A2A versus extension versus bus

Before flying, check whether you qualify for the AED 1,200 in country extension, which adds 30 days without leaving. Once extension is off the table, the a2a visa change is the better option, giving 60 days for AED 1,550. The bus to Oman costs less, from AED 1,000 for residence cancellation and AED 1,400 to 1,500 for visit visa holders, but it takes a day or two and includes a night away. For most India visitors the flight is the better balance of time, comfort and certainty.

Why applications get delayed

• Booking too late. Flights sell out around Eid, December and the January peak, so message us at least a week ahead.
• Less than six months on the passport. Immigration will not approve a visa in that case, so renew first.
• Mismatched names between ticket and passport, which airlines and immigration treat seriously.
• Fines left unpaid. Settle everything online before the flight to avoid being held at the exit counter.
• Assuming a grace period. There is none, so a visa expiring on the 10th must be extended or exited by the 10th.
• Previous immigration issues. Old bans, unresolved cases or improperly cancelled visas can affect approval, so tell us about them before you pay.
