Bhutan passport Visa extension: fees, rules and process

A Visa extension allows Bhutan passport holders to add 30 days to a UAE visit visa without exiting, flying anywhere or crossing a border. We process the extension for AED 1,200 per 30 day block, usually within two to three working days, and the whole application runs on WhatsApp. Read on for the rules that apply to Bhutan passports: cost, number of extensions, timing, documents and the exit routes once the maximum is reached.

The essentials for Bhutan citizens: AED 1,200 per 30 day extension, no exit required, two to three working days processing, a 120 day ceiling on total stay, and a five to seven day lead time before expiry. Only the issuing agency can process it.

How an in country UAE visa extension works

A Visa extension is an extension of the current permit; the visa number stays the same and the expiry date moves forward by 30 days. Immigration processes the extension under the original issuer’s account and records the new expiry against your Bhutan passport. There is no travel involved: you stay in the UAE, keep your accommodation and wait for the approval on WhatsApp.

Visa change by air or by bus means exiting and re entering on a new visa; a Visa extension avoids the exit altogether. For eligible Bhutan travellers the extension beats the exit routes on cost, effort and time away.

Who qualifies

Whether you qualify comes down to your current visa, your extension history and who issued the original visa. Message a photo of your visa to our WhatsApp and we confirm eligibility for Bhutan citizens before you pay anything.

  • Tourist visa holders with extensions remaining: up to three on a 30 day visa and up to two on a 60 day visa.
  • Travellers who will remain within the 120 day ceiling after the extension is added.
  • Holders of a visa issued by us. The UAE system routes extension requests through the issuing agency, which is why the same agency rule applies.

If we did not issue your visa, the original agency can extend it, or we can reset you on a new 60 day visa through an airport to airport change (AED 1,550) or the bus to Oman (from AED 1,000). This service does not cover visa on arrival stamps or residence permits.

How much does a Visa extension cost?

The Visa extension fee is AED 1,200 per 30 day extension, and the price is the same for every nationality, including Bhutan.

  • A single 30 day block: AED 1,200
  • Two month visa extension: AED 2,400, processed as two consecutive 30 day extensions

This price includes the immigration fee and our handling. On rejection the fee is retained by immigration and cannot be returned. If a fine has accrued, it is paid to immigration in addition to the extension fee. If you only need a month, extend; if you need two months and have run out of extensions, a new visa by air or bus is the better route for a Bhutan passport.

Spreading the cost

For UAE residents applying on behalf of Bhutan family or friends, the AED 1,200 can be spread with Tabby up to 12 months, Tamara on extendable terms, or a UAE credit card over 3, 6, 9 or 12 months according to the bank. Applicants who are not UAE residents pay through a secure online link. We extend spouses and children together and apply one instalment plan to the combined fee.

Visa extension requirements for Bhutan passport holders

Because your record already exists with immigration, we only need the following on WhatsApp:

  1. Passport copy showing at least six months validity.
  2. One colour passport photo on a plain white background.
  3. Your existing visa PDF, which tells us the entry date, expiry and extension count.

The extension does not call for a bank statement, accommodation proof or a return ticket. Immigration may occasionally request an additional document on a case by case basis, and we will tell you immediately if that happens for a Bhutan passport.

The application process step by step

  1. Share your documents with us on WhatsApp at +971 52 292 1011 or +971 4 220 2133 with at least five to seven days remaining, and we confirm the same day.
  2. Make the payment through the link we send. We submit as soon as it is confirmed.
  3. We file with immigration and follow up. Typical turnaround for Bhutan citizens is two to three working days.
  4. You receive the approved extension as a PDF on WhatsApp showing the new expiry date. Keep it with your passport for the rest of your stay.

When to apply and why the deadline matters

Immigration will not extend a visa that has already lapsed, so the request has to be in before the expiry date. With two to three working days of processing and no weekend service, a five to seven day lead time protects Bhutan visitors from missing the deadline. For consecutive extensions, submit each new request a few days before the previous extension expires and track your cumulative stay against the 120 day limit.

Overstay rules in 2026

Visitors do not receive any grace days after the expiry date. Every day beyond expiry costs AED 50, whichever emirate issued the visa, starting immediately. If the overstay passes 30 days, an exit permit of around AED 250 to 300 is required on top of the fines. Once expired, the visa cannot be extended. You settle the fine and use an exit route, airport to airport or bus, which we organise for Bhutan travellers.

What to do after the maximum extensions

Once a Bhutan visitor has used every extension and reached 120 days, exit is mandatory. From there you have four routes: an airport to airport visa change at AED 1,550 with a same day return by flydubai, a visa change by bus to Oman from AED 1,000 over about one day, returning home and applying for a fresh visa later, or converting to a residence visa if an employer or family sponsor is available. Air or bus, the result is a new 60 day visa, and we book either for Bhutan travellers on WhatsApp.

How to keep your application on track

  • Leaving it to the last day. An expired visa cannot be extended, so allow a week.
  • Approaching a different agency. The same agency rule means we can only extend visas we issued; for others, use an exit route.
  • Assuming the clock resets with each extension. It does not; 120 days is the total from entry.
  • Less than six months on the passport, which blocks the extension.
  • Trying to extend a visa on arrival or a residence visa. This service covers agency issued visit visas only; other permits need a different route.

Frequently asked questions about Visa extension for Bhutan passport

Do I have to leave the UAE to extend?

You can. Bhutan passport holders on an agency issued 30 or 60 day visa extend in country as long as extensions remain, the 120 day limit is respected, and the issuing agency files the request.

How much does a Visa extension cost for Bhutan citizens?

One month costs AED 1,200 and two months cost AED 2,400, issued as two 30 day extensions. The fee does not vary by nationality, so Bhutan passports pay the standard rate.

When will I receive the extension?

Usually two to three working days. Because government offices close at weekends, Bhutan travellers should allow five to seven days before the visa expires.

What is the maximum stay?

A 30 day visa can be extended three times and a 60 day visa twice, each by 30 days. The maximum continuous stay on any UAE tourist visa is 120 days, after which exit is mandatory.

What if my visa came from a different agency?

No. In country extensions can only be processed by the agency that issued the original visa, because immigration handles the request through the issuer’s account. If another agency issued your visa, contact them, or use an exit route with us: an airport to airport change at AED 1,550 or the bus to Oman from AED 1,000, both giving a new 60 day visa.

Can I stay a few days after expiry?

No. UAE visit and tourist visas have no grace period. A fine of AED 50 per day applies from the day after expiry, and overstays beyond 30 days also require an exit permit of about AED 250 to 300.

What about family members on Bhutan passports?

Certainly. We extend the whole family at once, and residents sponsoring Bhutan relatives can pay the combined AED 1,200 per person on an instalment plan.

Can immigration decline an extension?

Refusals are rare when the eligibility rules are met. If immigration declines, the fee is not refundable because the government charge is paid at submission, and you would need to exit before expiry through an airport to airport change or the bus to Oman. We check eligibility carefully before you pay to keep this risk low.
