Visa extension for Costa Rica citizens without leaving the UAE

If you hold a Costa Rica passport and your UAE visit visa is running out, a Visa extension lets you stay another 30 days without leaving the country. Each 30 day extension costs AED 1,200, takes two to three working days in most cases, and is managed entirely through WhatsApp with our team. Here is everything a Costa Rica traveller needs to know before applying: fees, limits, deadlines, paperwork and the alternatives when extension is no longer possible.

Quick answer: a Visa extension for a Costa Rica passport costs AED 1,200 per 30 days and is processed inside the UAE in two to three working days. A 30 day visa can be extended three times and a 60 day visa twice, up to a total stay of 120 days. Apply at least five to seven days before expiry, and note that the extension must be processed by the agency that issued the original visa.

How an in country UAE visa extension works

A Visa extension without exit is an extension of your existing visit visa, not a new visa. The request goes to immigration under the account that issued the visa, and approval extends the expiry date linked to your Costa Rica passport. There is no travel involved: you stay in the UAE, keep your accommodation and wait for the approval on WhatsApp.

Visa change by air or by bus means exiting and re entering on a new visa; a Visa extension avoids the exit altogether. If a Costa Rica passport holder is still eligible, the extension is cheaper and simpler than any exit route, so it is always our first suggestion.

Who from Costa Rica can apply for a Visa extension?

Three factors decide whether a Costa Rica passport holder can extend: the visa type, the number of extensions already taken, and the issuing agency. Message a photo of your visa to our WhatsApp and we confirm eligibility for Costa Rica citizens before you pay anything.

  • Anyone on a 30 day or 60 day tourist visa issued by an agency: three extensions for the 30 day visa, two for the 60 day visa, 30 days each time.
  • Visitors who have not reached 120 days in the UAE on the current visa.
  • Applicants whose original visa was issued by White Sky Travel. In country extensions can only be processed by the agency that issued the visa, because immigration handles the request through the issuer’s account.

If we did not issue your visa, the original agency can extend it, or we can reset you on a new 60 day visa through an airport to airport change (AED 1,550) or the bus to Oman (from AED 1,000). On arrival stamps and residence visas fall outside this service.

How much does a Visa extension cost?

We charge AED 1,200 for every 30 day extension regardless of nationality, so Costa Rica citizens pay exactly this figure.

  • One month visa extension: AED 1,200 for 30 days
  • 2 month extension: AED 2,400, issued as two separate 30 day approvals

The charge covers immigration and processing costs and is not refundable if the extension is refused. Fines for overstaying are paid directly to immigration and sit outside the extension price. For 30 extra days the extension is cheaper and simpler than any exit route; for a full 60 days with no extensions remaining, the airport to airport change or the bus route becomes the better buy for Costa Rica travellers.

Instalment plans for UAE residents

Residents of the UAE booking for Costa Rica visitors can use Tabby for up to 12 months, Tamara with extendable repayment, or a UAE credit card with 3, 6, 9 or 12 month terms set by the card issuer. Applicants who are not UAE residents pay through a secure online link. When several family members extend at once, we process them together and the total can be paid on the same plan.

Documents required for a Visa extension on a Costa Rica passport

Extensions need less paperwork than a new visa. Message us these three items on WhatsApp:

  1. Passport copy showing at least six months validity.
  2. A recent colour photograph, white background, passport dimensions, no glasses.
  3. The current visa copy, which we use to check the expiry date and remaining extensions.

You will not be asked for financial documents, a hotel booking or a ticket to extend. Immigration may occasionally request an additional document on a case by case basis, and we will tell you immediately if that happens for a Costa Rica passport.

The application process step by step

  1. Share your documents with us on WhatsApp at +971 52 292 1011 or +971 4 220 2133 with at least five to seven days remaining, and we confirm the same day.
  2. Pay through the secure link or instalment plan we send. Submission to immigration starts only after payment is received.
  3. We lodge the application and track it. Approval for Costa Rica passports usually takes two to three working days; immigration can sometimes extend this.
  4. We forward the extension PDF on WhatsApp; the new expiry date is on it, so keep it handy.

When to apply and why the deadline matters

Applications are only accepted while the visa is still valid. Once it expires, extension is no longer possible. Because approval takes two to three working days and government offices close at weekends and on public holidays, Costa Rica passport holders should message us five to seven days before expiry. For consecutive extensions, submit each new request a few days before the previous extension expires and track your cumulative stay against the 120 day limit.

Overstay rules in 2026

There is no grace period on a UAE visit visa. A fine of AED 50 applies for every day of overstay, the same flat rate across all visa types and emirates, and it starts the day after expiry. After 30 days of overstay, an exit permit costing about AED 250 to 300 becomes necessary as well. Once expired, the visa cannot be extended. You settle the fine and use an exit route, airport to airport or bus, which we organise for Costa Rica travellers.

When extension is no longer possible

At 120 days total, Costa Rica passport holders must leave the UAE. The choices are an airport to airport change (AED 1,550, same day, flydubai), the Oman bus route (from AED 1,000, about a day), going home and applying afresh, or moving to a residence visa where a sponsor exists. The two exit routes each provide a fresh 60 day visa whoever issued the first one, and we organise both.

How to keep your application on track

  • Waiting until expiry day, which leaves no room for processing time.
  • Expecting a third party to extend a visa it did not issue, which the system does not allow.
  • Losing track of cumulative days. The 120 day cap runs from first entry, including every extension.
  • Less than six months on the passport, which blocks the extension.
  • Expecting an on arrival stamp to be extendable. It is not; a visa change is required instead.

Answers for Costa Rica citizens

Do I have to leave the UAE to extend?

Yes, without leaving the country. The conditions are an agency issued 30 or 60 day visa, extensions still available, a total stay under 120 days, and processing through the issuing agency.

How much is a 2 month extension?

AED 1,200 per 30 day extension, the same for every nationality including Costa Rica. A two month extension is AED 2,400, processed as two consecutive 30 day extensions.

What is the processing time?

Typically two to three working days, excluding weekends and public holidays. Immigration can take longer in some cases, which is why a five to seven day lead time is recommended.

What is the maximum stay?

Up to three times for a 30 day visa and twice for a 60 day visa, always within a 120 day ceiling.

What if my visa came from a different agency?

The same agency rule applies to every nationality, Costa Rica included. If we did not issue the visa, we cannot extend it, but we can reset you on a new 60 day visa by air (AED 1,550) or bus (from AED 1,000).

How many days can I stay after the visa ends?

No. UAE visit and tourist visas have no grace period. A fine of AED 50 per day applies from the day after expiry, and overstays beyond 30 days also require an exit permit of about AED 250 to 300.

Is there a family extension option?

Yes. Each family member pays AED 1,200 per extension, we file them together, and the total can be spread over instalments for UAE resident sponsors.

Is the fee refundable on rejection?

Rejection is uncommon for eligible applications. Fees are not refunded on refusal, since immigration retains the charge, and the fallback is an exit route before the visa expires. Our pre check is designed to catch problems early.
