When a Japan citizen wants more time in the UAE, a Visa extension adds 30 days to the current visit visa from inside the country. The fee is AED 1,200 for each 30 day extension, approval normally arrives in two to three working days, and everything is handled on WhatsApp. This page explains who qualifies, what a Japan passport holder pays, how many times you can extend, the deadline to apply, and what happens once you reach the 120 day limit.
In short: Japan passport holders pay AED 1,200 for each 30 day Visa extension, approved in two to three working days without leaving the country. Three extensions on a 30 day visa, two on a 60 day visa, 120 days maximum. Apply five to seven days before expiry through the agency that issued your visa.

Visa extension explained for Japan travellers
An in country Visa extension extends the visa you already hold rather than issuing a fresh one. The request goes to immigration under the account that issued the visa, and approval extends the expiry date linked to your Japan passport. There is no travel involved: you stay in the UAE, keep your accommodation and wait for the approval on WhatsApp.
Visa change by air or by bus means exiting and re entering on a new visa; a Visa extension avoids the exit altogether. For Japan visitors who still qualify, the extension is the cheapest and least disruptive option, and it is the one we recommend first.
Who from Japan can apply for a Visa extension?
Three factors decide whether a Japan passport holder can extend: the visa type, the number of extensions already taken, and the issuing agency. Message a photo of your visa to our WhatsApp and we confirm eligibility for Japan citizens before you pay anything.
- Tourist visa holders with extensions remaining: up to three on a 30 day visa and up to two on a 60 day visa.
- Travellers who will remain within the 120 day ceiling after the extension is added.
- Holders of a visa issued by us. The UAE system routes extension requests through the issuing agency, which is why the same agency rule applies.
If your visa was issued by a different agency, you have two choices: ask that agency to extend it, or use an exit route with us. An airport to airport visa change costs AED 1,550 and a visa change by bus to Oman starts from AED 1,000, and both give you a fresh 60 day visa regardless of who issued the first one. This service does not cover visa on arrival stamps or residence permits.

How much does a Visa extension cost?
The Visa extension fee is AED 1,200 per 30 day extension, and the price is the same for every nationality, including Japan.
- One month visa extension: AED 1,200 for 30 days
- Sixty days of extension: AED 2,400, applied as two 30 day steps
This price includes the immigration fee and our handling. On rejection the fee is retained by immigration and cannot be returned. Any overstay fine is settled separately with immigration and is not included in the AED 1,200. Compared with the exit routes, the extension is usually the better value for a Japan visitor who needs 30 more days, while a new 60 day visa through airport to airport or bus makes more sense when you need the full two months and have no extensions left.
Pay in monthly instalments
Residents of the UAE booking for Japan visitors can use Tabby for up to 12 months, Tamara with extendable repayment, or a UAE credit card with 3, 6, 9 or 12 month terms set by the card issuer. Other travellers pay by a secure online payment link that we send on WhatsApp. We extend spouses and children together and apply one instalment plan to the combined fee.
What Japan citizens need to send us
The document list for an extension is short, because immigration already holds your details from the original visa. Send these on WhatsApp:
- A clear copy of your Japan passport, valid for at least six months.
- A recent colour photograph, white background, passport dimensions, no glasses.
- Your existing visa PDF, which tells us the entry date, expiry and extension count.
Bank statements, hotel confirmations and return tickets are not part of the extension application. In rare cases immigration asks for something extra; if so, we let Japan applicants know straight away.
The application process step by step
- Share your documents with us on WhatsApp at +971 52 292 1011 or +971 4 220 2133 with at least five to seven days remaining, and we confirm the same day.
- Make the payment through the link we send. We submit as soon as it is confirmed.
- The extension is filed and monitored by our team. Expect two to three working days for most Japan applicants, subject to immigration’s discretion.
- We forward the extension PDF on WhatsApp; the new expiry date is on it, so keep it handy.
When to apply and why the deadline matters
The extension must be submitted before the current visa expires; an expired visa cannot be extended. Because approval takes two to three working days and government offices close at weekends and on public holidays, Japan passport holders should message us five to seven days before expiry. For consecutive extensions, submit each new request a few days before the previous extension expires and track your cumulative stay against the 120 day limit.
Why the expiry date is final
There is no grace period on a UAE visit visa. The overstay fine is AED 50 per day, applied uniformly across every emirate and visa category, from the first day past expiry. After 30 days of overstay, an exit permit costing about AED 250 to 300 becomes necessary as well. If your visa has already expired, extension is off the table; the practical route is to pay the fine and exit through an airport to airport change or the bus to Oman, and we can arrange either.

When extension is no longer possible
At 120 days total, Japan passport holders must leave the UAE. Four options follow: airport to airport at AED 1,550 and back the same day, the bus to Oman from AED 1,000 taking roughly a day, a return home before a new visa, or a residence visa through an employer or family member. Either exit route resets you on a new 60 day visa, and the same agency rule does not apply to them.
Mistakes to avoid
- Waiting until expiry day, which leaves no room for processing time.
- Assuming any agency can extend. Only the issuer can, because immigration routes the request through the issuing account. Check who issued your visa before you plan.
- Assuming the clock resets with each extension. It does not; 120 days is the total from entry.
- Short passport validity, which leads to refusal.
- Applying with an arrival stamp or residency, which cannot be extended through an agency.
Questions Japan travellers ask us
Is extension without exit possible for Japan citizens?
Yes, without leaving the country. The conditions are an agency issued 30 or 60 day visa, extensions still available, a total stay under 120 days, and processing through the issuing agency.
How much is a 2 month extension?
AED 1,200 for a 30 day extension and AED 2,400 for 60 days, with no nationality surcharge for Japan citizens.
When will I receive the extension?
Most extensions are approved within two to three working days. Weekends and public holidays are not counted, and immigration may occasionally take longer, so apply five to seven days before expiry.
How many times can a Japan citizen extend a UAE tourist visa?
Three extensions on a 30 day visa, two on a 60 day visa, 30 days each. Total stay cannot exceed 120 days from the original entry.
Who can process my extension?
No. In country extensions can only be processed by the agency that issued the original visa, because immigration handles the request through the issuer’s account. If another agency issued your visa, contact them, or use an exit route with us: an airport to airport change at AED 1,550 or the bus to Oman from AED 1,000, both giving a new 60 day visa.
Can I stay a few days after expiry?
No grace days exist. Overstaying costs AED 50 per day from day one, plus an exit permit of approximately AED 250 to 300 once the overstay passes 30 days.
What about family members on Japan passports?
Certainly. We extend the whole family at once, and residents sponsoring Japan relatives can pay the combined AED 1,200 per person on an instalment plan.
What if my extension is refused?
Very few eligible extensions are refused. If yours is, the government fee cannot be refunded and you would exit via air or bus before the current visa runs out.
